Just curious, I've got some old footage I wanted to play with and the audio is clipped, any recommendations for possibly cleaning this up? Could I use Sound Forge, cut the clipped areas, bring up the levels, then add some compression? Or is there a better way or program? I'm using Vegas 5.

I highly recommend the Sony Noise Reduction 2.0 software.

This has four very useful tools.

The Clipped Peak Restoration works great to salvage otherwise useless audio.

The other tools are useful in correcting some noise problems. Be advised that road noise is very difficult to remove.

The tool in SF works very well IF you now how to use it.
Oftenly it'll not see clipped peaks so what I do is to use the Volume tool to increase the clipping. Then the tool will see the clipping and repair it.
Last bit of audio I worked on must have had some form of minor DV offset somewhere. Clipped Peak restoration fixed the positive peaks after I boosetd the levels by 0.1dB but not the negative peaks. Bumping the levels up another 0.1dB forced hard clipping of both +ve and -ve peaks and the result was almost perfect audio, well for something recorded by a camera.
