I am looking for both a mixer that I can take out in the field - 9V battery operated or somethig like that - and a mic that is comparable to the Audio-Technica AT-835B (at a lesser price!). Thanks

I think we'd need to know a few more details about the mixer before anyone can make any recommendations, how many channels do you need would be a good starting point. When you say 'in the field' do you mean something to sling over your shoulder or sit on a desk etc?
BTW, lots of stuff that's not 'battery powered' by design is easy enough to make so.

I use this Mixer - love it! It can be run off a PP9. I've only used it connected to mains so far. You do "loose" the main clipping LEDs when on battery power.

what's a pp9? how do you make something battery powered when it's not?

In the field to me means, anywhere outside that I am shooting dialogue. Although it doesn't mean in the field in the middle of nowhere it does mean where I can shoot with the mixer on the ground, on a stool or anywhere that there might not be a close AC outlet around.
The mic I want is one that is good to use outdoor for dialogue, one that won't pick up all the street noise and everything else when I am just trying to get dialogue.

A PP9 is a small 9 volt rectangular battery. When NOT using DC from the MAINS AC transformer, I can turnover the Mixer and release a trapdoor in the mixer's base and attach this "PP9" battery using the "snap-on" connectors; close and secure the trapdoor and switch on the mixer. This makes the Mixer operate/powered without the need to be connected to the MAINS transformer which in turn would need a - in the UK - a 240v ac supply.

Bahringer replaced it with the UBB1002. It is still AC/DC. They changed the mic preamps and the opamps. It uses three 9V Batteries. Two Batteries are for the mixer and one for the phantom. When on the batteries the phantom is only 18 volts.

So does that mean it is better or worse than the MX1002, since you say they changed the preamp and the opamps...?
