I'd like to expand the choice of fonts in Vegas. How does one import them into the Text Media section? And what font sites do you recommend?

Fonts that are in the Windows system will auto-display in the Vegas title tool if they are TTF fonts.
www.free-fonts.com
www.fontfile.com
www.downloadfreefonts.com

are all sites I've used.

I read somewhere on some tutorial that certain fonts work better in Vegas as far as artifacting etc. Any ideas on which fonts to avoid or pursue? San Serif or Serif? ph

It's not so much a problem with Vegas as it is with the DV codec in general.
The article "Great Titles with the DV Codec" at http://forums.creativecow.net/cgi-bin/new_page_wrapper.cgi?forumid=24&page=http://www.creativecow.net/articles/hodgetts_philip/titles/index.html does a great job of explaining some workarounds.

Serifed fonts are never good for heavily compressed vid in general. One thing you can do is to change the resolution of the fonts to double SD, and this helps a lot.

Actually, I have another question--does all of the above apply to Vegas DVD Architect too?

It's a general rule in video overall. You can usually get away with serifs on large text blocks, but that's about it. With progressive scan output, it's much less of an issue, but still an issue depending on text size.

DSE - Are you talking font size - or is there another setting? I'm not sure how to accomplish this in Vegas.tks

I'm not DSE but, thanks to him posting this tip elsewhere, I can tell you how to do this.
When you create a new piece of text, look in the top left corner of the Generated Media box and you'll see the "Frame Size" settings. Double these from 720 x 480 to 1440 x 960. It does make a difference.

Thanks. I did not know that this setting was even there. ph
