Looks like there is no problem in using an HD1/HD10 as a feeder deck for both 720p30 and 24P from an HD100.
You can't see the 24P, or output via analog, but you can capture the 24P and 30P via FireWire using HDVxDV.
Turns out you can write 24P to tape using FireWire. I did with good old DVHScap.
So the only issue is how to get a valid 720p60 24P HDV stream out of FCP 5.
