Hello All! As I'm beginning to use my XL2 more frequently and for more involved video projects, the idea to invest in a separate deck to play, record, review, and log tapes sounds like a good and wise one. I am considering the Sony DSR-11. Has anyone used this deck with an XL2? Any words for me? I've heard of some timecode sincronization problems requiring either the XL2 or Sony DSR-11 or both to be sent off to their respective motherships for recollaboration, but not enough to scare me off. Are their any comparable products I might consider before Sonyizing my setup?

I've read several posts about the DSR-11 not playing well with XL-1S/XL-2. Not much mention of the Panasonic AG DV2500 (JVC BR DV3000). I have the Panasonic and it plays tapes from both cameras very well. It sells for around $1500.00. I wish Canon would make or at least package a deck with their name on it.

OK one more thing to consider, 800 bucks less than the other jvc is this, the JVC SR-VS30U, I picked up one at BH for about 800 last year and never looked back. Unless you're going to need to work on DVCAM tapes than you might like the luxury of this deck. There is also a lesser version which they give you the impression there is no 1394 on, however there is and it works just the same.

Can the JVC SR-VS30U be controlled via firewire by a computer? Or is it for camcorder to connect to without the computer support?

DSR-11 is a great deck... lots of production houses like for things to be delivered in DVCAM not miniDV. It works fine with the XL2...

I have it setup to my PC via 1394 and I control is just perfectly with both Premier Pro and Scenealyzer.

Maybe I'll combine that JVC you mentioned with a Firestore FS-4, recording tapeless mostly, and using tape in the JVC to archive when necessary. Just a thought...

I couldn't agree more with Ash. Even though I had some problems with my DSR-11 and XL2 combo, the DSR-11 has always been rock solid. Besides, in my case, the problem was with my XL2, not the DSR-11.
Given a second chance, I would buy one again.
