I have an Azden SGM-1X XLR mic and I bought this adapter from B&H:

I can't get any sound to register from my mic. I was wondering if I needed to use a Beachtek adapter instead of the cable adapter of if there is some menu setting I need to change to get the audio from the external mic.
Here's a link to a photo of my setup:

Does the mic have a battery in it? Is it turned on? Sometimes it's hard to tell on mics that can be powered by either phantom power or batteries.

yeah it had batteries and it was turned on. I even went out and got brand new batteries for it just to make sure. I did notice that when I turned the manual mic control all the way up, I could just barely hear a sound. I tested it out with my wireless mic, and it worked fine, so I don't know why the shotgun doesn't work.

I am quite shure that what you bought is just a cableconverter and it doesn't handle the different signal levels. I tried that and got a lot of noise. I have bought a Studio1 XLR-BP Professional adater (similar to Beachtek's) and it handles the levels better.

Thanks for the replies. I was looking into getting a videomic anyways, so this is a good reason to do just that. I really don't want to have to use a XLR box adapter like the Beachtek or Studio1.
