Glen you once metioned that you crop your footage so it becomes a tigher fit

ie. "I shoot in 4:3 and crop to 1:85:1 (tighter crop than 16x9)"

Can this be done in final cut? Because I would like to goto a different aspect ratio. and actually create a new look.

I actually just started messing around with FCP recently but am not a guru by any means- Vegas still is very much home for me.

I believe FCP has a filter titled "Widescreen" where you can choose a whole range of crops including 1:85:1.

Another way to do it quickly is create a PSD file with black bars top and bottom. I have multiple layers for differing ratios (2:1, 16:9, and so on). just drop the appropriate layer on the top video track and your done.

This also makes it easy to adjust the background video up or down to correct for any chopped off heads.

Well Glen I actually wanted you to clarify what exactly you meant by your statement... does 1:85:1 look cleaner than 16:9 and if so why...

The aspect crop has nothing to do with clarity. It's simply cropping the images. I don't shoot anamorphic- I shoot standard 4:3 60i.
