Can anyone recommend where I can order one of those big umbrella attachments (that I assume attach to the tripod) for shooting outdoors...you know, mainly to block the sun.

...maybe I should just get a film student to hold an umbrella for me? ;)

Reflectasol makes clamps that will fit onto the leg of a tripod and the handle of an umbrella. There used to be a "banana clamp" that did the same. Check out some photo supply stores for these things.

Be aware that if it's windy the umbrella's going to shake your tripod. You might have to clamp it to a seperate light stand and weigh it down with shot-filled bags.

If you can get a student to do it then that might be better. If not, then get a grip... :-)

Send me an email, and I'll share an idea I have for a setup that does not attach to your tripod.

I'm on a business trip up in Fairbanks right at the moment, but will be available this weekend to share ideas.

I used to use a Bogen Super Clamp. Bogen has a double stud that allows you to fasten two clamps together. If your not using your umbrella, you can use them on a set.

A Tota clamp will work as well. I think they're around $15 from lowell. I've had one in my bag for a year and forot about it.
