I was wondering if when utilizing the VCR Stop function on the XL2 between each take so that the camera does not power down after the 5min. while on pause , does that have any wear and tear on the heads after a period of time, or does it actually completly disangage the tape and stop the heads from doing it's thing? Hopefully I posed this question in an understandable way.

It disengages and spins down. So, you'll have to allow a few seconds for it to wind back up the next time you hit the record button.

Yes, that's the very reason for that function to exist. Battery savings is secondary.

And most importantly, when starting a take the camera operator get's to holler "Speed!" when it's back up and rolling which sounds so cool! <grin>
