Hi sorry if this has been discussed before
but as iam now using the FX1 in 16:9 how could i best get the nearest
match with the XL1s, yes i know the Canon doesn't do true 16:9 and at this point in time i can't really afford a 16:9 add on lens so is there a way or could i be stuffed
Many thanx

Hello Ian,
This is weird, but I am in a similar situation.
I am going to be shooting a concert soon. I have my XL1S and an FX1 to use.
Does anybody have any advice on getting similar images out of these cameras?

I made a test earlier this year with both these cameras and was able to match them with the colour /gamma correction tools in Avid Xpress DV.
I'll have a look to see if I've still got any frame grabs from them.

All I could find were these 4:3 images - sorry there wasn't anything else left...

Hi Robin
those 2 images look very close, its the 16:9 that's bugging me the Sony is great when you can get close, but the canon with the interchangeable Len's is a must for for wildlife
So what would be the best way to get the best 16:9 image from the XL1s to match the FX1 in 16:9
My idea is to use the Sony when i can get close and the XL1s when its not possible.
Thanks again

Ian,
I think that the only way of getting comparable pictures in 16:9 between the two cameras is to shoot all the very tight material on the Canon and utilise the 16:9 chip of the FX1 for wider or landscape shots.

Robin is correct, just dont try to cut the same length shots together. The XL2 cuts much better with the FX1/Z1. I have had BAD luck a couple times with a Z1 in crazy concert vari-light lighting.

Thanks all
Just one thing when editing (i use Edition 6.1) you can set it to capture 16:9, would you use this setting for the Canon footage
Thanks again

Ian,
I would think so - after all, both cameras are producing full height anamorphic pictures.
It's just that the FX1 will have higher resolution.
