I just picked up an FS5M2 and bought 2 lenses:
SEL55210 E 55-210mm F4-F6.3 OSS
SEL1855 E 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 OSS
Everything works fine and Sony's compatibility site says the lenses are 'fully compatible'.
https://support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/www/cscs/lens_body/index.php?mdl=PXW-FS5&area=eu&lang=en

but no mechanical zoom, just the clear zoom.
focus-check, steady cam -check, iris-check...all good but...

Is the kit lens the only one that uses the mechanical zoom or is something amiss here?

Aloha,

Hi Wayne, the lenses you own are indeed manual zoom only. Very few lenses actually have the internal zoom motors necessary for the grip rocker to work optically - the 18-105mm being one of them. Quick trick to knowing which ones work is the lens having a little zoom switch on the side. Some others that come to mind with the internal zoom motors are the compact 16-50mm and the expensive 18-110mm cine zoom. Hope that helps.

Thank you for that information.
Now,at least I know everything is working as it should.
Great little camera.

In addition to the 18-105, there is also the Sony 18-110 parfocal zoom lens, which works just fine with the FS5. It works with either the rocker zoom control, its own zoom control or manually.
