Hi all,

I'm looking at upgrading my b-cam (A6400) because of the absolutely terrible 1080p video quality. The 4K footage looks amazing, but I'd also love decent full HD footage too. It's a massive step-down from my FS5, and even other mirrorless cameras like the GH5.

I've been Googling for an hour but can't seem to get a straight answer; how does the A7S II 1080p footage look compared to the other Alpha cameras? Does the sensor use pixel binning or is it over-sampled like the 4K footage?

Anything better than the mushy HD video the a6400 produces would be great!

Any info would be awesome. Thanks guys.

I rented A7iii for a wedding and the image quality and low light performance is second to none no matter what resolution you’re filming, It uses the full sensor. There are a lot videos online you can watch. They improved the autofocus and battery in the A7iii so you might consider it if you have the budget. One thing to consider with these cameras is the cost of the lenses. The G master lenses are great but wow are they expensive.

I've never owned the A7s ii however I've owned the A7s and currently use the A7iii which I have mixed results with.

Here's my thoughts on great HD

Fuji Film XT3 is the best for HD, 4K.

A7iii is soft in HD 4K is what you want to shoot. Great for low light.

Sony Z90 is the best all-round video camera both for HD and 4K.

Why not simply downsample the 4K, if you do it right you can even improve the chroma subsampling.
