View Full Version : PXW Z190 will not recognize card.
Anthony McErlean October 1st, 2019, 08:12 AM Hi,
I don't have a Z190 but a friend of mine just bought a used one with only 50 hrs on it.
He said that the camera doesn't recognise the SanDisk cards, saying something like, "no media found"
I have read that the PXW Z190 will not recognize a SanDisk Extreme Pro card.
Have any of you come across this?
Thanks in advance.

SanDisk Pro and Lexar
Would a firmware update help?
I'll get the camera in a day or two and I'll look to see what firmware version it's on now.

Thanks Donald, I'll have a look.
Wonder why some Z190 owners are having this problem?

no idea about update, but from reading the thread it appears the new sandisk might be problematic. does he have problems with the lexar as well?
Anthony McErlean October 2nd, 2019, 08:11 AM Thanks, yes, I seen that as well and yes, same with the Lexar cards.
Anthony McErlean October 21st, 2019, 03:28 PM Hi again, well, I've got my hands on the camera at last, that wont recognize the SD cards. (see my first post)
Its an PXW Z190V
My friend said, no matter what card he tried, the camera didn't see the card.
I tried it myself tonight and I've inserted a few different makes of cards into the two slots in the camera and all I'm getting is "Unknown Media Please Change"
In the menu, the first thing I looked for was, Format Media, but its greyed out, even with the media in the card slot.
Under Version it says, Version Number V2.00
Appreciate any help guys
Thanks in advance.
Donald McPherson October 21st, 2019, 11:59 PM Bought it second hand. Me thinks you need to send it back and get a refund.

Yes, second hand, I've just written to Sony and explained the problem to them, so we'll see what they think.
Thank you.
Doug Jensen October 22nd, 2019, 07:52 AM Have you done a complete reset on the camera?
Have you checked that the cards are not write-proteced?
Have you set the camera for a lightweight codec such as XAVC HD @35 mps?
You say you've tried different cards, but are you certain that any of them are certified for use in the camera? Just because you tried several cards doesn't mean that any of them are actually approved.
Hopefully one of those things will help.
Anthony McErlean October 22nd, 2019, 09:08 AM Thank you Doug, for all that advice, you said..".Have you done a complete reset on the camera"
I think I did see" reset" in the menu but thought nothing more of it.
What will this do? will it just bring the camera back to factory defaults?
Thank you.
Doug Jensen October 22nd, 2019, 09:38 AM Yes, it will bring the camera back to factory defaults, which is an excellent way to start troubleshooting a problem such as this. If you do a reset and use approved cards -- and you still have trouble then I would say the camera is not functioning properly.

OK thank you. I'll try that soon.
Anthony McErlean October 22nd, 2019, 04:03 PM Have you done a complete reset on the camera?
Just before I press the button :)
In the Menu /System/ All Reset/ Reset.. and there is a Reset without Network option.
Which of the two options do I select?
I don't have the manual but I downloaded it and I think its the Reset option that I select, not, the reset without network.
Is this correct :) ?
Thank you.
Doug Jensen October 22nd, 2019, 07:10 PM Unless you have setup the camera with passwords, IP protocols, etc. for streaming it doesn't really matter which one you choose. Sony just gives users the option of preserving all those streaming settings because they can be a bitch to setup again. In your case, you should probably reset the whole camera just to start with a totally clean slate. BTW, even your memory cards and everything else seemed to work fine when you bought the camera, you should always do a full reset anytime you buy a used camera. And then create a camera profile after you program your custom settings and then use that file anytime anyone else uses your camera or anytime you feel the camera is acting wonky.
Anthony McErlean October 22nd, 2019, 09:37 PM Thank you Doug, for all that advice, thats all good to know.
Doug Jensen October 24th, 2019, 01:52 PM Anthony, any luck with the reset?
Anthony McErlean October 24th, 2019, 05:12 PM Hi Doug, sorry for not getting back sooner, running to the hospital took up a bit of time, thankfully nothing serious in that department but yes, wether it was the camera reset or the correct card but thank goodness the camera can see this prograde digital card :) I haven't had much time to test out the camera just yet, my main concern was trying to get the camera to record :) once I inserted the card into the slot I had a good idea it might work this time, I formatted the card in camera and was glad to se the recording light.
Thanks everyone for all your help, I'll keep you posted :)
Donald McPherson October 24th, 2019, 05:49 PM That's a big relief.

Is it what ! Your right there, I'm glad to see it working :).
Doug Jensen October 25th, 2019, 07:03 AM Yes, glad to see it working now.
Anthony McErlean November 7th, 2019, 05:37 PM I know this is not the place for this question but I want to view the Z190 thumbnails clips on my PC,
What software will allow this?
I use Content Browser to view my SXS card clips but it won't let me see the Z190 clips as thumbnails.
Thanks in advance.
Doug Jensen November 7th, 2019, 08:45 PM Content Browser is several years out of date. You need to download another free program from Sony called Catalyst Browse. https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/catalystbrowse
Anthony McErlean November 8th, 2019, 09:48 AM Thank you Doug :)
