View Full Version : UWOL 52 - Tales of wonders and woes
Trond Saetre July 5th, 2019, 01:08 PM As always, interaction between the players is encouraged.
What goes great, what did not go as planned, and everything in between, about the making of your UWOL 52 films.
Hope all of you have found an idea for your entries. Your imagination is the limit of how you interpret the theme.
Don't be afraid to ask if you have any questions.
Have fun, and bring it!
Trond Saetre July 10th, 2019, 03:09 PM How is everyone doing? Anyone still hasn't found an idea yet?
Hope you all do well, and push yourselves.
Have fun!
Phil Murray July 11th, 2019, 01:44 PM I'm not sure, but literally as I was writing just now about how I probably won't get anything done this month, I came up with an idea that I might be able to pull off.
It won't be thrilling, but it has some potential if I'm creative enough to make something of it. :)
Trond Saetre July 11th, 2019, 07:12 PM Pushing the creativity, can be a challenge itself. Hope it works out for you.
Victor Wilcox July 12th, 2019, 06:33 AM It’s been a rough start. Monday morning, as I was packing to head to Palo Duro Canyon, one of our two year old heifers got through our fence and was hit by a truck. She was really scraped up but is recovering nicely. Looks like she’s not going to lose her calf.
I got some great shots of Palo Duro Canyon, but the only wildlife I saw was a Mocking Bird, a turkey and a road runner.
I’m scheduled for back surgery to remove a basil carcinoma next week, so I want be out much for the challenge. At least I’ll be cool inside.
Phil Murray July 12th, 2019, 07:55 AM Victor -- first of all I wish all the best for the surgery and a quick recovery. Hope you're back filming with us soon.
Palo Duro is a pretty good trip from Plantersville. (Non-Texans really don't realize just how far it is to cross the state like that.) It's a beautiful place, but summer is not the time to see animals except at night. West Texas is the one part of the US I miss more than anywhere else. I could easily live in the Big Bend region.
(Also, sounds like you guys are dodging a bullet with the storm coming through LA this weekend.)
Phil Murray July 12th, 2019, 08:00 AM Jut 24 hours later, It looks like I might have an easier time than I thought. There was an airline sale this morning and now I'm heading to the the rainforest to shoot along the Amazon River on the 22nd. I only have 3 days to shoot, but I know the area extremely well so I can plan in detail before I leave. I am REALLY excited as the jungle is where I feel at home.
Catherine Russell July 13th, 2019, 06:13 PM Hi UWOL 52-ers:
All the best to you this challenge! It's a great theme (Trond, the girls thinking up the themes never seem to disappoint!).
I would have loved to try something, but my plate ended up a bit full. It happens from time to time!
I'm expecting to be wowed with your films and looking forward to August. Have fun!
Cat
Trond Saetre July 16th, 2019, 04:39 AM Victor, hope the surgery goes well and the recovery will be quick.
Phil, you obviously go all in with force to succeed with your entry. Impressive! Looking forward to see what the jungle brings you this round.
Haven't filmed anything yet, but I have the beginning of a weak idea in mind.
Phil Murray July 21st, 2019, 09:22 AM I'm just trying to have fun with it, Trond. I still have no real plan and I'm leaving for the jungle tomorrow for about 3 1/2 days of filming! I do have a general theme and I think I'm going to try something completely different from anything I've ever done. If it works out, it could be really cool. If not, it'll still be fun and I'll learn a lot.
No matter what, how can I not have fun filming along the Amazon River? :)
Hope everyone's projects are coming along nicely. I always look forward to seeing what you all come up with so I can learn from you!
Trond Saetre July 21st, 2019, 09:35 AM That's the way to do it! Have fun and enjoy your trip into the wilderness.
Phil Murray July 29th, 2019, 09:16 AM Looks like I'm out unless I can come up with something in the next couple of days. I haven't given up, but am running out of ideas. (My plans in the rainforest didn't work out as planned!)
Still can't wait to see what others come up with!
Dale Guthormsen July 30th, 2019, 06:58 AM Have finished my video.
do not remember how to post it on vimeo..
help from anyone out there?
Paul Wood July 30th, 2019, 03:12 PM Dale, you need a code from Trond, contact him at uwol@dvinfo.net, and he will send you the details.
Trond Saetre July 30th, 2019, 03:20 PM Dale, I have replied to your email, with instructions of how to upload your film to the UWOL Vimeo account. Feel free to ask if you have any questions.
Mick Jenner July 31st, 2019, 09:19 AM Luckily noticed the closing date is not until the 4/8. Think I might have an entry this round with some footage from the last couple of weeks coupled with a little archive. Just frantically writing a script and cross checking the behavioral science facts are correct. If all goes to plan should get down to editing tomorrow.
Please could you email me the password Trond
Trond Saetre July 31st, 2019, 11:53 AM Upload details sent.
Dale Guthormsen August 1st, 2019, 08:52 PM Normally I have no problem finding wildlife to film. this round with heat and heavy winds it was almost impossible. the film i wanted to make couldnt reslly happen. To avoid the tank I halved my intentions.
Anxiety struck as i was running out of time, could of swore dead line was 30th. thanks for the help posting. at least I followed through this time.
To get started again I needed a new work station and sent the old xlh1 out for repairs, wallet much thinner! Boy am I out of practice. Look forward to the next round so I can have a little more fun at it.
Trond Saetre August 2nd, 2019, 01:30 AM Good to have you back, Dale!
I'm balancing on the edge of the shark tank. Haven't filmed anything but some dolphins, who played near my boat, the other day. No idea how to make that into a full video, story wise.
Hopefully I can come up with something.
Henry Williams August 4th, 2019, 12:19 PM Just scraped over the line and submitted this evening.
It's been a challenging shoot- heat haze was a consistent issue and avoiding it meant a lot of very early mornings. Then halfway through I lost a weekend to thunderstorms and pretty torrential rain.
But... it's also been a fantastic learning experience. I've really enjoyed observing my subjects and I've overcome some technical challenges that will make future projects easier.
I hope everyone else has had fun and really look forward to watching your entries.
Henry
Trond Saetre August 4th, 2019, 01:42 PM A few entries already uploaded. If anyone else think they might be able to submit, but haven't received upload details, hurry up.
