OK first off, am SO not a sound editor- however i've got a personal project i'm working on which has TERRIBLE wind noise overlapping the voice- besides doing ADR (not possible), are there any filters i can apply to it in Final Cut pro which would effectively reduce the wind noise at the same time keep up the voice strength? much thanks in advance!

Wind is about the most difficult thing to zap next to running water and close-in traffic.
You might try several light passes of Sound Soap or something like it. It will plug straight into FCP or Soundtrack, I'd use Soundtrack. Better still if you have Peak.
Otherwise, you can try to find the most offending frequency of the wind, and try to pull it down, but wind shifts frequency enough that you might not be able to do this consistently.

Hmm thanks for your input guys- what i was really looking for was a way to do this via FCP and it's audio filters- i.e which filters would work best- i've tried different ones sorta trial and error and all i've done is either make the voice squeal like a 5 year old girl watching her first horror flick (not that i would recommend this) or make the voice AND wind go really really low like an intimate whisper of the wings on a hummingbird- yes i feel cheesy today :|

so yeh, if anyone has any suggestions for inhouse audio editing in FCP to get rid of or even minimise wind noise and which filters i could use, it would GREATLY help :D

Without a specific noise reduction plugin that uses FFT (essentially a million little EQ points, you will spend literally hours and hours trying to do this. FCP (and most other NLE's) is not equipped with the tools. It's like trying to fix a tire without a jack. Virtually impossible. This is why tools like Cleen, SoundSoap, and others exist, because nothing comes with the tools necessary. Soundtrack Pro has a noise reduction tool that is "fair" and can help a little, but it's still not a pro-grade tool, IMO. SoundSoap Pro eats it for breakfast, but SoundSoap Pro and Soundsoap aren't free...
