View Full Version : No AF on 18-80 Servo lenas and C100 Mk1

My internet search brought me back to DVInfo for this question. I just rented a 18-80 Servo lens to use on my C100 Mk1 but the auto focus or auto iris does not work.

Is this true?

Thanks KPO

Kevin, seems to me that both should work -- I put a query into a contact at CUSA, however it's a Friday night, not sure when I'll get a reply.

Okay thanks for checking. Everything I've read so far states that Mk2 versions of camera bodies and up seem to work, I've read that earlier 5D and 7D bodies (that have Dual Pixel Focus) do not work with the AF on the 18-80 servo lens. So I'm guessing that my C100 Mk1, which I had dual pixel focus added, does not work.

Thanks KPO.

Did you purchase a C100 Mark I that had DPAF on it, or did you have it installed on your C100 by Canon? Does it use DPAF with other lenses?

I purchased DPAF and had Canon install it. It works on all my Canon AF lenses.

Thanks KPO

Kevin, I heard back from my guy at CUSA (who may be reading this -- but corporate does not allow him to post). He says that as long as your C100 has the DPAF upgrade then that lens *should* give you AE & AF.

Gotta be some wrong setting somewhere. Does the lens have a hand grip, and is it properly plugged in? Don't know if the grip makes a difference though.

It does not have the add on hand grip. Rental store said they have an early model that did not come with he hand grip.

Now I'm wondering if the lens is working right? I knew I should have checked it out a tthe store and of course I skipped on the insurance.

Kevin, the camera must be running the latest firmware.

It needs to be version 2.0.9.1.00

If you don't have it, you can download it at https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/cameras/cinema-eos/eos-c100/?subtab=downloads-firmware

i have the down load but cant find the pdf directions. Just dragging the file to a SD card and loading in the camera is not working,

How do you get the camera to update the firm ware?

The download is an executable that you have to open on a computer first. Instructions for the exact procedure about how to do the update is part of that package. Open the file first (.zip for Windows; .dmg for Mac) and go from there.

- CN-E70-200mm T4.4 L IS KAS S
EF Lens
- EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM
- EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM
- EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM

Caution:
Firmware Version 2.0.9.1.00 is only for EOS C100 cameras which have Firmware Version 2.0.3.1.00 - 2.0.8.1.00 with the Dual Pixel CMOS AF Feature Upgrade applied. If your camera's firmware is already version 2.0.9.1.00, it is not necessary to update the firmware. Once the camera is updated to the latest firmware version, it cannot be restored to a previous version.

Preparations for a firmware update:
After the Firmware update has been performed, the camera's menu settings and Custom Picture settings will be reset. It is recommended that users save their menu and Custom Picture settings as settings data to an SD card, separate from the one that will be used to carry out the update, before starting update operations. This saved data can be loaded into the camera and the settings can be changed after the update has been completed. For further information on this, please refer to the section in the camera's user manual titled Saving and Loading Camera Settings.

The downloaded firmware folder contains the firmware (File Name: VKG9.FIM, File Size: 35,067,076 bytes) and a procedure manual for updating the firmware (a PDF file in five languages: Japanese, English, French, Spanish and Simplified Chinese). Please check the firmware update procedure manual carefully before starting update operations.

The following things are required to perform this firmware update:
1. A Cinema EOS C100 (with the Dual Pixel CMOS AF Feature Upgrade applied) camera body
2. A computer (OS: Mac OS 10.7 - 10.13)
3. A 64 MB or higher-capacity SD / SDHC / SDXC memory card (both commercially available)
4. A memory card reader (commercially available) or an SD memory card slot on the computer
5. A fully charged battery pack for the camera
6. Compact power adapter bundled with the camera
7. The firmware (the downloaded file)

Yeah, it worked. Thanks for the help and the download info. I was able to up date my C100 firm ware to the latest and the 18-80mm Servo lens is working great.

Thanks again because this saved me from running back to the rental store before my job tomorrow. Now I need to apologize to the rental store for the phone message I left, oops.

Take care, KPO

This was all due to a certain Canon pro rep who answered my text pretty late in the evening and took time out to help on a Friday night. I'll see him next month hopefully, and will thank him in person for you. Glad to hear all is working well.
