This update is simply insane, and I mean that in the best possible way. They have really stuffed it to the gills with some great stuff.

It does seem insane at face value, but it's all advancement of BMD's calculated 'freemium' business model which clearly anticipates the future of post-production in 4K/HDR video.

And perhaps no surprise that this significant update coincides with launch of the BMD 4K Pocket Cinema Camera (expected availability September 2018) pitted as a cost-effective competitor to the Pana GH5. Importing native High-10 422 H264 files from the GH5 requires the Studio version of Resolve ($299). Buy the BMD 4K PCC and the Studio version comes free with it. Canny.

The BMD 4K Pocket Cinema Camera is apparently ( not yet proven ) competitive with the GH5 for film style shooting if RAW is the need. Personally it is not competitive at all in most other areas with the GH5. No IBIS, no compressed format recording so either very expensive Cfast cards or add an external SSD, need an external battery for any long form recording, nice monitor but it is fixed etc.

As to Resolve 15 I look forward to upgrading my Studio 14 version when the full version is released looks good.

Well it's a 'Public beta' release so bugs can be expected. Having tested it and picked-up a few, I've rolled back to 14.3 for now. Same was true of 14 when it was beta, but the final release brought a significant performance boost, for native H264 handling especially.

Not true, the device supports ProRes.

Did I not say that. No compressed formats to record to SD cards so need fast media to record ProRes either internal to Cfast or externally to SSD Yes I know ProRes is a compressed but not highly compressed LongGOP like Gh5.

The external SSD interface I think is a great feature!
It is more economical and overall better than using flimsy and expensive SD cards.
