I wonder if it's something us mere mortals can get.

After Effects could easily do this.

Here is a link to the After Effects template that looks somewhat similar: https://videohive.net/item/puzzle-slideshow/19265346?s_rank=3
and https://videohive.net/item/puzzle-slideshow/15316637?s_rank=9

If you type "puzzle after effects" in the search bar of Videohive.net, you'll see all the various options.

Oren's link looks super spot-on.

For more general information on the technique, check out various After Effects card-dance effect tutorials...geez, there are so many. Here are a couple good places to start:

https://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/using/simulation-effects.html

Tutorial Card Dance Effect with mocha and After Effects (http://mamoworld.com/tutorials/card-dance-effect-mocha-and-after-effects)

And a recent example of a different use of the effect:
Steve Audette Prologue from FRONTLINE's Divided States of America on Vimeo

Lots you can do with Card Dance...But again, Oren's link leads to what looks like a good template if you want a jigsaw-puzzle look.

Thanks everyone. AE is on my next to learn list. My current mac would choke on it, but I hope to get AE when I buy the Mac trashcan this year.

Thanks again for taking time to respond. Very helpful.
