View Full Version : Project properties, very quick question. Paul Kellett February 5th, 2017, 05:57 AM Ok project properties, 3840x2160x32, 50p. What is the x32 ? Thanks, Paul. Marco Ba February 7th, 2017, 02:51 PM Actually it depends on … If "3840x2160x32" is what you see below your preview window, then "x32" means 4 x 8 bit or 8 bit per channel RGBA. It's an 8 bit project then. With same sizes, a floatpoint project would display as "3840x2160x128" and x128 then means 4 x 32 bit float point or 32 bit float point per channel RGBA. Seth Bloombaum February 8th, 2017, 05:57 PM If "3840x2160x32" is what you see below your preview window, then "x32" means 4 x 8 bit or 8 bit per channel RGBA. It's an 8 bit project then... Nope. While Marco is right about what "32-bit color" usually means out there in the wider world, that isn't what these particular Vegas V8+ project settings do, nor what the indication below the preview display means. Floating point 32-bit refers to the computation precision that Vegas will use to render the results of some filters and composites. It's processor intensive, so, is not the default. It comes in handy if you see banding in what should be smooth gradients, or have trouble recovering highlights, complex keys or other operations where greater precision may help the look. That's the mode that x32 refers to. Alpha channel transparency (RGBA) is supported by Vegas on all tracks all the time, regardless of 8-bit or 32-bit float precision settings. Though many codecs don't support RGBA... Be aware that there are two gamma settings available in 32-bit float... if your work looks lighter or darker than expected in 32, you'll want to explore this. Here's a great reference: Color spaces and levels in Sony Vegas 9 and 10 (http://www.glennchan.info/articles/vegas/v8color/vegas-9-levels.htm) Note also that this was introduced in V8, but there were some changes for V9. Marco Ba February 9th, 2017, 06:41 AM It's just the way Vegas Pro displays the mode below the preview window. If you selected an 8 bit project in project properties, preview window will display 32. If you selected a float point project, preview window will display 128. So it depends whether Paul means the project property setting or if he means the display below the preview window (which is what I refer to in this case). |
