Wow. I tip my hat to you, Trond, my friend. I’ll admit that these UWOL themes often leave me struggling to figure out an “angle”. I’m not sure I even understand the concept of “virtual postcards”. (Oh, I know all about those internet “thingies”, I can just never understand why people rush to indulge in such pretentious silliness…) A quick Google search has left me more than confused. This time you have not just kicked me outside of the box, you have catapulted me so far outside that I can no longer even pretend that I can still see the box. This is good. I love it! Thank-you, sir!!
Trond Saetre October 1st, 2016, 06:20 AM Haha, then my mission must be acomplished, Mike.
The imagination is the limit for how the results turn out.
Whatever you do, always follow rule 11! :)
Kevin Railsback October 1st, 2016, 07:17 AM I look at it as a showcase of something or someplace.
Mike Sims October 1st, 2016, 07:34 AM Thanks, Kevin, that helps. Speaking of virtualness (is that even a word?), I hope you folks heading for Bristol might consider setting up a group Skype at some point so those of us stuck in the homeland might be able to do a virtual visit. Just a thought.
Edit: Should have said homelands!
Gordon Hoffman October 1st, 2016, 07:49 AM Thanks Trond. I may be able to use the shots of my feet!

Kevin Railsback October 1st, 2016, 08:45 AM Mike,
I'm planning on taking a camera and shooting a lot of video and photos.
We'll have to see if we can go live on the UWOL Facebook page that way anyone that misses a skype if we can pull it off can watch.
We'I'll be there Saturday morning so I'll probably be doing some updates before anyone else gets there
Trond Saetre October 1st, 2016, 08:57 AM Yes, we'll see what we can do while we are in Bristol.
But please keep this thread for uwol 40 only.
Bristol events can be discussed in the get together thread.
Bryce Comer October 1st, 2016, 09:02 AM Wow great theme. Will definitely get the old grey matter working hard!!
Vishal Jadhav October 1st, 2016, 09:31 AM This theme is like those Interview question , where if the Interviewee says "good question" it may actually mean he/she doesn't have the answer at top of their mind at that moment :)
Virtual postcard hmmm a idea which has just crossed my mind is sending a Virtual post card to all UWOLers who would miss Bristol and try and make a small film about that event - Wildscreen. May be that can be termed as a Virtual postcard, i dont know yet but it came as a thought Let me see if i can execute it.
Or even think of something else
Mark Hartopp October 1st, 2016, 04:00 PM Hi, need confirmation of the rules. Is this a purely a documentary competition? Or can we produce short fiction films (script not voice over) based around facts or on a true story? Cheers
Trond Saetre October 2nd, 2016, 01:01 AM The UWOL rules do not specifically limit the films to documentary style, even though throughout UWOL history, almost everyone has made and prefer that type of films.
The goal/purpose of UWOL has always been to encourage people to get out in the nature, and push themselves to become better outdoors film makers.
Fiction can also be made under water or over land.
Therefore, fiction is allowed.
Mark Hartopp October 2nd, 2016, 02:27 AM Thanks for confirming.
Trond Saetre October 31st, 2016, 07:58 AM If you think you may be able to submit, but haven't requested the upload details for vimeo yet, hurry up!
Deadline is coming closer, but still many hours to make your postcards.
