Has anyone used a Sigma ART 50mm 1.4 lens with the C100? Have a chance to buy one from someone at a good price, but didn't want to bother if it didn't work well with the C100.

Thanks!

What do you mean by "work well"? Why wouldn't the C100 work well with an EF lens?

My guess would be if it works well with the DAF function.

I have a C300 with the DAF upgrade and it works really well with my Canon glass the EF 28- 300 L and 17- 55 EFS, but struggles with my Sigma 24- 105.

I really like the Sigma look on the C300 but having that DAF function when my eyes are tired is a wonderful thing. I have been looking at the Sigma Art 50 mm for a while which is half the price of the Canon 50 mm L lens. Optically I actually expect them to be the same, but my guess would be that the Canon lens would work better with the DAF function as opposed to the Sigma. If anyone has any experience between the two I would be happy hear it.

Yup, that's exactly what I was wondering. My C100 has the Dual Pixel Auto-Focus upgrade, and I was wondering how well the Sigma chips work with the Canon cameras.

The Sigma lens is being offered to me about half of what a used Canon 50mm L lens costs. I don't do enough freelance work anymore to justify spending a ton on lenses (and if I ever did get a job that needed them, I would just rent them), but since I have a 7D Mark II as well, I was looking for a lens to do double duty with my video camera and my still camera.

Thanks for clarifying that, Jeremiah. I have the Sigma 24mm, 50mm, and 18-35mm all Art badged lenses. They have worked perfectly fine with the C100 DPAF, C100 Mark II DPAF, and the C300 Mark II DPAF.

For Svien's issue with the 24-105, it was specifically updated via firmware to allow it to work properly for DPAF, so if you haven't updated the firmware of your lens, you might look into that.

Hi Gary. So the Sigma Art 50 mm should also work well with the C300 then. That`s good to hear. How do you find it optically then? Do you know the procedure for updating the firmware on the Sigma 24- 105? Is that done via Sigma`s website and USB cable?

You have to have the Sigma USB Dock (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/909813-REG/Sigma_USB_Dock.html) and then you download the software from Sigma's website. Had to do it with my 18-35 which also didn't initially have full DPAF support but has worked wonderfully since the update.

As far as the 50mm optics, I love the look of Sigma. A little more neutral than the Canons, and very sharp.

Thanks Gary. I will check it out. Never thought this was an option.
