I purchased the "Illuminate" series of Light Leaks from Rocketstock which are advertised to be compatible with all NLEs. Each "leak" is a 4k mp4 file. When I try to import into Vegas I get an error

"File cannot be opened - make sure that the file exists and you have access to the folder"

I also cannot play the file directly in Windows Media Player or in Quicktime but can play with my VLC player. Any suggestions?

I download 13 Free 4K Light Leaks from Rocketstock and I can open its in Vegas Pro 13.0.435
Art, check filenames in the root to your files. May be root is too long or contains unicode symbols.

When I right click on the file and look at the properties most of the parameters show nothing. I was wondering if was a permissions issue but everything looks the same when I compare it to another mp4 that I can open successfully.

Quite frankly, I’d contact Rocketstock and ask them to stand by their word and fix the problem.

Art, try using VLC to convert the file(s).

Click Media/Convert
Add files (drag and drop) - maybe try with just one first.
Click convert
Click on the tools icon alongside the profile.
I tend to use the default values but you may wish to change them to suit
Supply a destination file name (the originals won't be overwritten)
Click start

Now try opening it in Vegas. I can't promise it will work with your clips but I have had the same problem as you in the past and this worked for me (with 1080p footage, not 4K).

Good luck.

Thanks Ian - I saw a similar suggestion on a Youtube video and I followed the steps you outlined. I get up to the point of naming the destination file but it doesn't seem to recognize the file type as no matter what I enter for the name the resulting file has a .ps extension even though I have .mp4 selected under the tools icon. I did find another conversion tool (Bigasoft Total Video Converter) that seems to convert the file successfully. The free version only gives you half the clip though.

Yes I think that was where I got it from originally!

.ps seems to be a filetype used by VLC to simply play a file. I wonder why that's happening :-/
