I'm using premiere pro CC but want to get away from a subscription based service. Any low cost editors out there that support the PXW-X70 codec? I own CS6 but I dont believe it supports the codec.I edit mainly wedding videos and some corporate stuff. I don't use a ton of effects but need title capability etc.

Do you have a x70? You might want to try first with cs6 before you buy another NLE?

I also use Edius 7.5 and Edius Worhgroup 8 and have no problems editing any of the Sony x70 codecs.I do not have the 4K option yet.

You could just get a utility to transcode to a codec that you can edit in cs6. Then you don't need to buy or learn a new editor.

Take a look at the free versions of BlackMagic Design's Davinci Resolve and Lightworks. The new resolve is moving to a more windows based drag and drop system, which has been my argument for Vegas in the past.

I've got a Sony PMW-300 camera and whilst it can record to XAVC via the applied firmware updtaes, I've elected to continue with recording in 50Mbit XDCAM422 and edit with my 'already purchased' CS6 suite.

If you can, record to that format with your camera, and you will be able to go back to using CS6 for editing.

Lightworks has the option of an outright license, which comes with a bundle of Boris FX and Boris Graffiti. If you only need Graffiti for the titles, there is currently a 40% discount https://twitter.com/ESLightworks .

You can use drag and drop, if that's your thing, although the traditional Lightworks method is actually faster.

same steps as Richard: Avid and then Edius: thumbs up for Edius 7.5
easy and quick to learn, powerful for serious editors

Hi there
I use CS6 at home, but used Edius in an earlier version when doing some work for Reuters TV. (Their chosen programme)
Very nice, straight forward editor, I found it easy to drop right into from Premiere and edit straight off. No steep learning curve.
It is powerful enough for quick professional turnaround, without all the superfluous features.

Yeah I should mention I'm on PC and I do use a PXW-X70 (hence the posting here and not in the editor forum) Thanks for all the input. I shoot in XAVC in both HD and 4K. Excellent feedback here!
I do like the way Premiere works, but CS6 doesn't support XAVC (at least the version on the X70)
Not too keen on transcoding all my footage as it will take significant time and space to transcode the 5-6 hours of footage that I normally capture. Wspecially as I have hundreds of short clips.

You should also not ule out the free Davinci Resolve.12.

I do my coloring/grading and trimming of clips in DR 12 (SLog from FS7) and then use Edius for the rest of the process with transitions and titling.

I use the X70 as a backup cam - especially in traveling where the FS7 would give problems with local prohibitions against using "professional" video cameras and the XAVC-S (4K) runs very smoothly in both DR12 and Edius.
