My Espon R280 printer, which cost about $99 years ago, is on the way out.

What is the current comparable Epson model that prints DVDs?

HI Jeff,

My dvd printer also gave up this week, bit annoying as it was a Canon and I just purchased two sets of new ink cartridges for it. After some research, found a nice little Epsom XP635 for £89 in the UK. It's a current model and is a scanner, printer and CD/DVD printer. Usual good Epson print quality, but Epson ink tends to be more expensive than most.

General reviews and specs seems to suggest about 300 A4 sheets per ink charge. The good thing is that there are separate ink cartridges for different colors, so if you use lots of one colour there is no need to replace them all.

Hi, Jeff.
My Epson R280 is fading fast as well, so I've been looking around for an affordable replacement.
The link below lists the current line of lower-cost Epson printers capable of printing DVDs.

Hope this helps,
Craig

Just for information, the XP630 on Craig's linked list has now been superceded by the XP635

Thanks everyone, especially Craig. Your link was just what I needed.

The xp630 is on sale for $99 at Epson's website and is $89 at Staples. Perfect! I'm out the door to get one at Staples!

I am also using Epson XP-620 together with CISS. Love it. It is now replaced by XP-630. CISS is a must have. Ink cost is never an issue anymore.

I put down the Printer driver settings I have too in my blog.

Tried to get a CISS ink system for my new Epson XP635 ater seeing Taky's post. Unortunately it is too new, so the CISS supplier haven't got the chips yet that let the printer recognise the cartridges. They'll email me wnhen the chips are available, but they reckon a couple of months. I'll just have to bite the bullet and pay Epson prices for now. Great little printer for the money though.

I used an Epson R1800 for many years to print DVDs. It did a nice job but I wanted something that would fit into a suitcase easier, so I found the Canon iP8720 which is also a wide format photo printer. Turned out to be no good for printing DVDs, as the disc feed mechanism is such that the rollers go over the freshly printed surface and goon everything up. Got an Epson R200 to handle my DVD printing while on travel. For big jobs I have an Epson PP-50 Disc Producer, which burns 'em then prints 'em, 50 at a time without any operator intervention required.
