Hey just wondering how to go from slow to regular motion in a single shot. I have just bought the Sony FS5 which does slomotion, but unsure how I'd then return to regular speed in the shot.

I presume it's something that's done in the edit.

Thanks Andy. So record at 120 fps or whatever, drop onto a timeline in FCP 10, then retime? Image when slowed to normal speed doesn't look weird?

I have FCP6 and FCPX... but only really edit in CC2014 (or CS6) now depending on which Mac Pro I am using.

On CC, with the clip in a 1080p25 timeline you can just chop the slomo clip where you want to make the speed change and re-time/change speed percentage to whatever you want for either section(s). In Cambridge/not in my studio in front of my edit systems but that's how I remember it...

No, as you suggest just drop the high speed footage into a timeline - say 30fps, and FCPX will retime by missing out frames. If you want to make it slow motion go to retime menu and Automatic speed ( used to be conform) this will slow it down. You can add custom speeds or speed ramps as needed.
