Well, it was posted today on that site and I cannot find any other reports so far, something of this magnitude would have been all over the internet.

I'm still emotionally recovering from Windows Vista...........so I look at Windows 10 for free with great trepidation.

I believe the free upgrade is only starting from windows 7

Yep, it's surely a hoax. A good one though.

To be perfectly honest I don't like the interface at all ..it seems to be designed for kindergarden users. I found it frustrating but it was on my wife's computer not my work machine and she quickly decided to revert right back to Win7 Pro !! Luckily the downgrade back to Win7 or 8 is quick and painless as long as you do it within 30 days of upgrading to Win10 ... I'm staying on Win 7 for now.. At least I can get to software I need quickly and easily without lots of little screens popping up asking me what I want to do!!

My edit pc is still on windows 7 and I plan to keep it that way because I see no reason to fix anything that isn't broken but my wife has windows 10 now for a while on her pc. It has been rocksolid so far and all her programs work. I have used her pc a few times and while it does take some time to get used to I find it better and more polished then windows 7.

Noa:

I have downloaded and installed many thime on my Wndows 7 box, to see if if the problem I was having with Vegas in that particular box might have been resolved. Each time I used the on board capability of returning to Window 7 and have done so without loss of any on board programs. My issue has to be a driver problem somewhere in the box, and I haven't been able to solve it. But I would suggest trying to load the Windows 10 and see how everything runs. It will take about an hour or two, and returning the box to Windows 7 is very fast. Maybe, half an hour at most.

I have a older program I need for my bookkeeping that won't run on windows 10, that's one of the reasons I am not upgrading, I just don't see any benefit right now to upgrade to 10, eventhough I recently have purchased a new pc. Everything I need and use for my editing runs stable on win 7 pro.

I agree wholeheartedly about the interface. It's probably the intention to have it so simple that kids can pick it up almost straight away. On the other hand, I prefer Win 7 for when you just want to get work done.

I saw this last night also! I think this perfectly highlights just how pervasive these non-stop Windows update requests are.

Ironically, I had one pop up as soon as I clicked on this thread.

I highly recommend "GWX Control Panel" (here at Ultimate Outsider - Software Downloads (http://ultimateoutsider.com/downloads/)) for enabling the user to put an end to this nagware pestilence.

Thanks - yes, I was aware of Never10, but I'd held off on using it, or GWX-CP, as I'm always a bit wary of tools that make registry changes. Plus I was (reasonably) confident that I had passively evaded Win10 upgrade "implants" by not installing those optional updates known to harbor the upgrade widget and the last two "important" cumulative IE11 updates - and browsing only with Firefox or in Linux.

Trying Never10 just now however, it reports that "Windows 10 OS Upgrade is ENABLED on this system". Well I never! With that knowledge (after a full system disc back-up) I've installed the cumulative IE11 updates and set Never10 to "Disable Win10 Upgrade". I'll see how it goes.

I just cloned my win 7 pro drive to a separate drive and upgraded to win10pro on my main drive for free while the offer still lasted, I can still go back to my win7 pro installation because it's configured to not receive or install updates and it's not going to be updated at all anymore, I have it like this for the last years and it has worked out fine for my editing purposes.

I just wanted to testdrive win10pro to see if it's worth my time, there will come a time where we won't have any other choice to upgrade and while it's offered free I thought now was the best time to try out.

I did a upgrade instead of a clean install so I didn't waste any time reinstalling all my programs and drivers and so far all seems to be working fine, one thing that was extremely annoying is the windows update part as they don't allow you anymore to select what updates you want/don't want installed. Edius 8 requires a specific driver to make quicksync work and windows update kept overwriting that driver with the latest one, it took me a while to find out what changes I needed to make and to finally found a tool from Microsoft that allows you to hide certain driver updates so windows leaves them alone.

Now it's time to try it out :)

All three computer that i have are now Win 10, had a few small probs initially but they've been stable now for a few months. One or two programs didn't like it but i was able to run them in compatibility mode so all good.

I took the plunge. Had it on my laptop, wasn't diggin it but all my Adobe CS4 worked on Windows 10, contrary to what I read online. My PC was getting bogged down so I did a fresh install of Win 7, but it just seemed a bit behind. Alot of updates weren't working, just didn't seem to run on all 8 cylinders. So I upgraded to Win 10.

Gotta say, I really do like it. My fave was XP but I think 10 is fast becoming my 2nd favorite.

Been testdriving win 10 the past weeks and no real problems to report, what I do like about it is that it's a polished version of 7, everything just looks better (more up to date) and software integrates better with the system. One "issue" however which I said before is that edius only works right with a specific driver for the onboard gpu in win 10, I didn't notice anything unusual but I have compared rendertests where Edius uses the onboard gpu to see if there where any speed differences and a one hour file took 1minute longer to render in win 10 compared to win 7, nothing worth mentioning but it shows that the older driver that I have to use in win 10 is less optimized as the newer version I"m able to use under win 7.

Under win 7 edius also feels snappier, in win 10 it looks like it needs to think for a split second before it does anything.

I switched back to 7 now and will keep 10 aside just incase I might need it for whatever reason, at least I know now it works and switching is just a matter of plug and play. For my needs win7 is just fine right now.

I have just upgraded my system to WIN10 and have not yet done an encode test like you Noa but to me EDIUS 8.2WG seems a lot snappier with WIN10 than WIN7. Maybe with the next update to EDIUS it will use the latest Intel driver too. I am staying with WIN10 though. I of course have turned off almost everything with Shutup10 and Anti-Beacon though.

I used shutup 10 as well to turn off most phone home stuff, was surprised how many information microsoft wants to send back to them about the way you use your pc, they might as well send someone over to sit next to you the entire day and see what you are doing, then at least you would have someone to talk to.

No problems with Windows 10 here either. MS tricked my system into updating, because I had been waiting till they worked most bugs out. But so far it's been great. Some things that were flaky with W7 became good (like they should have been in the first place).
