Hi, I have a standard defination and a HD TV with HDMI inputs in which I cannot playback my 4k video straight off the camcorder. The video plays back on my ASUS PB278Q which is 1920x1080 and 2560 x 1440 without any problems through HDMI.
My XAVC HD video "will play back" on both of my TV's, but when I switch to my 4k XAVC QFHD the video won't play back. Unfortunetly, I do not have a 4K TV at this time. Is there any way to play back 4k on either one of my TV's? Thanks in advance for your help, Ray

This is the crux with HDMI, as there are a whole bunch of different versions. Your full HD TV will probably have an HDMI version 1.4 interface, while UHD and 4K requires an HDMI version 2 (a or b).
However you will for sure have a setting in your camcorder which downconverts UHD/4K to HD 1080p at your HDMI output of the camcorder (look into you manual how to set it). With this setting your video will be displayed at your TV.

Hi Joachim,
Thanks for the reply....You are exactly right. In the meantime I contacted Sony USA in which I received a very quick response as well. They also gave me a link (below) to the release notes of the 4k upgrade which includes 4k user information. I totally overlooked it upon downloading the upgrade..... My Bad. Thanks again for all your help. Ray

So the X70 has HDMI 2.0? I thought HDMI 1.4 could do UHD up t0 30Hz?

Paul,
you are right. HCMI version 1.4 already supports 4K/UHD up to 30fps.
For framerates above (50, 60) version 2.0 is needed.

X70 HDMI supports UHD playback to UHD monitors. I've done it several times with different monitors.
