So I just took a call from a very enthusiastic lady congratulating me on being a finalist at 'The Northern Wedding Wards 2015' - first I've heard of it so being the usual suspicous person I am I asked here to email me further details and it seems even though I get a complimenatary ticket I would be charged for people with me @ about £100/person.

Now I've never put myself forward for this, and wouldn't for one minute put myself as a finalist when there are people putting out way better work than me so yes - I think it's pretty much a scam, I just wondered if any of you folks had come across anything similar?

Just an advertising scam Pete! We have the ABIA awards here and I have been nominated many times as the "best in the West" .... they want to take your money!!

There are plenty of 'pay to win' style awards, though this one seems to be hiding that with one extra step.

There is a local DJ company that "won" a major national award a couple of years ago. All they had to do was pay$195 and they'd have a plaque rushed to them. Lucky guys. (they did pay)

looks like they're run by a crowd called creativeoceanic

seem to have an award for just about everything!

if the invite doesn't have 'Free Beer' on it I'd give it a miss

I'd give you a free award, Pete, for offering some of the best advice going on wedding documentary filming.

I can make you a plaque, and I'll send you a crate of beer too!

:-)
