View Full Version : Fast wide autofocus prime? AKA $900 mistake

I just realized my Sigma Art lens in 35mm F1.4 in A mount I just bought new for my FS700 cam using the Sony adapter will not open up wide than the maximum F2.8 of the LAEA adapter. I bought it specifically for it's low light speed. This now makes it totally redundant to my Sony Zeiss F2.8 18-35mm.

Now that's a $900 mistake. :(

So who makes a fast 1.4 very wide zoom in E-mount that autofocuses? A FF 35mm won't be 35mm FOV on a Super35 sensor, so I may need either a wider FF lens recommendation of a fast 35mm for Super35.

Sony makes a 35mm f1.4 in E mount.

The FE 35 is awesome, but it'll be a ~52mm FOV. Another option is the E-mount Zeiss 24/1.8, which is the closest native lens to the 35/1.4, just a stop slower.

Can be found used for around $600 if you are patient.

Is there a reason the LAEA3 wouldn't work for you? What is the special purpose/feature of the other version you have that is more expensive?

I think all of their LAEA autofocus adapters default to F2.8 at its fastest, so if you have a faster lens, it will be of no value if you need to open it up beyond F2.8.
