I use this camera about twice a year, and got a job coming up but can't find the darn usb cable to do firmware update. Any recommendations for where to get a cable that fits? Thanks.

It's not plugged into the hand strap? The USB is a part of the camera.

Should have been more clear, sorry, I've got the x70. As far as I can remember, it never had one in the handstrap. The manual shows it as a separate item.

Is there a "MULTI" port? That should take any standard micro USB that every phone from the last few years uses...

While there are a few funky "charge only" cables out there, you'll know pretty quickly whether the camera connects via USB properly or not. If the camera "sees" it's connected, and the computer "sees" the camera, you should be able to do the firmware update as data across the USB connection.

+ Dave. If you have to buy one, I use Amazon, I buy almost everything there. Just have to know which cable you need.

Okay, got some cables, anybody do the firmware upgrade and 4k on a Mac, and if so, any problems?

Well, once you jump through all the arcane steps required by Sony to actually get what's needed to install the 4K update, the actual installation is dead simple on a Mac - nothing to it. The 2.0 firmware is also simple.

I called Sony Service and talk care of the hard stuff over the phone. As Dave Dixon notes, once you get the file the upgrade is easy.

If you're on a Mac avoid their website headache and just call them. Give them the purchased activation code and camera serial number and they email you the file.

I bought my activation code at B&H.
