There is also a link on that order page with some cryptic information about a mail-in rebate for the 4k upgrade for people who bought an X70 before March 30.

Just thought I'd chime in with the usual UK pricing moan.........

Come on Sony UK - stop the price gouging $499 = £320 + VAT = £384 NOT the £499 you're charging us!!!! - f'ing rip off

/end rant

End user pricing after rebate will be $200 USD. Not bad, I think I will preorder just to keep my X70 from depreciating in value.

I won't be able to shoot in 4K though. My FCP X install won't let me export frame-rates (24/25/30) that don't match the project timeline frame-rate, which for me is ALWAYS 60p! Everything exports as still frames.

Now I've gone from being resigned to the high UK pricing to being absolutely furious with Sony UK!

It's apparently 60,000 yen on the Japan website ,about £307 at current exchange rates. I live in Thailand ,so Sony Asia who say they will release it Monday 22nd. Don't know the price yet. Why not try another Sony site?

Ok it's not so bad - Visual Impact in the UK Here (http://www.visuals.co.uk/catalogsearch/result/?q=CBKZ-X70FX) have it listed for a tad under £300 +VAT

I've calmed down a little now!

Alaska is included. A quote from the rebate PDF:

"Offer valid only in the continental United States Hawaii and Alaska; excluding territories."

I'm assuming this is because B&H is located in the US. I believe Sony Authorized Dealers in other countries would have their own rebate programs.

the last days I got Mails from German-reseller and UK from Sony, no rebate in Europe, so I and many other say, Sony should get his Software and we need no 4k! Because customer get more for free.

I bought from Amazon in the US, better be able to get the rebate. Be nice if it was more clear who/how eligible etc.

According to the rebate it says this:
End user purchasers of PXW-X70 who took delivery of their product on or before March 31,
2015 and who purchase a CBKZ-X70FX 4K license key during the promotion period from a Sony
Authorized Reseller, Reseller of a Sony Authorized Distributor or Direct from Sony can receive
a mail-in cash rebate. Eligible product must be ordered by and shipped to the end user within
the promotion period in order to qualify for this rebate.

What about owners (like me) who took delivery of their X70 after March 31st? Could it be, that March 31 was when they lowered the camera price? I'm wondering what is so unique about the 31st? Any thoughts?

Thanks,

According to Jim Stamos in this thread...

x70 price drop/new cam coming (http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/sony-pxw-x70-fdr-ax100/527592-x70-price-drop-new-cam-coming.html)

Sony's fiscal year ends March 31st. And the lower price started as early as April 2nd (I don't know first-hand if it started on the first, but I would assume so).

Same old problem that makes this camera useless. Only 12 times optical zoom.

Thanks for the link Paul...... I'm fortunate enough to have purchased the camcorder well before March 31'st. I definately feel that "ALL" PXW-X70 owners should be offered this rebate. In my opinion, bad business. Thanks again, Ray

Not really. The clear image zoom is pretty darn good. In fact, I doubt you could tell where the optical ends and the clear image begins. Now, I understand that when you are using 4K, you will lose some of that clear image zoom. I believe it changes to 18X, but most of what I will be doing w. 4K is down converting to 1080 anyway, so I can crop in anyways.

I don't think so. Doing the way they are doing it, ensure the customer who paid a premium for purchasing the camera early is not punished for doing so. This way, we all pay the same price for the camera and upgrade. It's equally fair for everyone, and doesn't screw the early adopters.

It's fair, Sony is offering a rebate for all the stress and heart problems they caused for the wait for XAVC L ingest capability......punitive damages of sorts. :)

You download the 2.0 firmware and install it, which is free and available now. The 4k upgrade is shipped as a piece of paper with just a key number that you use to unlock the 4k inside the 2.0 firmware, as I understand it. B&H says it is supposed to be shipping the key numbers out today.

B&H today removed the notice on its order page for the 4k upgrade that said expected shipping time would begin today. It now just says "Coming Soon. Shipping time unavailable."
