View Full Version : Lav mics for recorders
Peter Rush May 14th, 2015, 07:25 AM Hi all - last year mid season I purchased 2 of these Pronomic mics to use with my Sony audio recorders and they sounded great, seemed very well engineered and were a good price
Pronomic LA-30 EA Lavalier Microphone Universal Black: Amazon.co.uk: Musical Instruments (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004EA0D0O?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage)
Unfortunately they have both failed now with occasional spikes when the cable is moved. I look after my stuff so as far as I'm aware the cables haven't been stretched, even re-soldering 2 Nutrik 3.5mm plugs onto the cables hasn't worked so I'm thinking very poor quality cables.
So I'm on the hunt again and currently having to use my Sennheiser ME-2 for micing up the groom, I'm not keen on this as the connector is a 3.5mm locking one and never seems to be in far enough as a regular 3.5mm jack so I make sure it's taped down as well, maybe I'm being over cautious.
What lavaliers are you guys currently using that's proved reliable for non-wireless setups?
Pete
Robert Benda May 14th, 2015, 08:10 AM I LOVE my matchstick microphone. About $130. Tiny, tiny, tiny (the brides don't even see it on the groom, 90% of the time). Has held up well. Quality is very respectable.

Peter Rush May 14th, 2015, 08:17 AM Now that looks a good option - need to find a UK supplier otherwise a bit too expensive - after postage and import duties around £220!
Andrew Maslen May 14th, 2015, 09:17 AM Pete, try getting it direct

Shipping is only $20, it was a little slow but better than B&H's one (high) price fits all !

Leon Bailey May 14th, 2015, 09:18 AM I use the Sony ECMCS3 Clip style Omnidirectional Stereo Microphone (http://amzn.to/1RJX0mg). Would need a cable to extend it since it's kind of short, but I love it. :)
Steve Bleasdale May 14th, 2015, 11:12 AM Pete these are great, see reviews and had them two years and bashed around, just make sure they are not to near the mouth when on the speeches as they get a little hot, other than that excellent.

Steve Bleasdale May 14th, 2015, 11:41 AM Pete here is a sample of the lav mic with my recorder.
Peter Rush May 15th, 2015, 02:00 AM Cheers Steve - that sounds good - funnily enough I looked at a review yesterday and wondered about that one

Steve Burkett May 15th, 2015, 03:06 AM When not using my G3, I have 2 options for my pocket audio recorder -
Rode Lavalier Microphone Omni Directional Lapel Mic at Gear4Music.com (http://www.gear4music.com/PA-DJ-and-Lighting/Rode-Lavalier-Microphone-Omni-Directional-Lapel-Mic/SBC)
and...
Rode PinMic Long Lavalier/Lapel Microphone - Nearly New at Gear4Music.com (http://www.gear4music.com/PA-DJ-and-Lighting/Rode-PinMic-Long-Lavalier-Lapel-Microphone-Nearly-New/155S)
The latter is good when I'm asked to place a mic discreetly. I tried it on my suit and thepins don't make much impact on the material. No more than flowers.
One thing I had to buy a 3.5 jack adapter, but I can use it for both.

I bought one on the strength of that review for use with a Zoom H1 - well pleased with it for the money.

Just went to order and they're bloody 'unavailable at this time' damn!
Steve Bleasdale June 11th, 2015, 04:05 PM the Olympus me 15 are still great Peter if you are struggling, just drop them down a little on the jacket.
