So I shot video while on vacation and while the clip plays with sound in windows media play, when placed on the timeline in Premiere it has no sound at all just video, I was wondering what can I do to correct this?

Copy ENTIRE contents of SD card to a new folder on the hard drive. Do not alter contents, do not use camera utility software, just straight file copy. Then in Premiere, use MEDIA BROWSER to do the import, rather than "File > Import". There is metadata included in folders in the SD card data that are necessary to properly interpret the footage in Premiere. Hope this works for you.
