I've used my GH3 on a Blackbird stabilizer with much success using a Tokina 11-16mm Nikon mount and Metabones Speed Booster. One thing that I occasionally mess up is focus. With the wide angle lens there is always a fair amount of DoF but even with that, if I forget to check focus before the shot, I may miss it. I was just wondering if the autofocus on a lens like the Olympus 12mm f/2.0 works well enough to use for instance, while walking through a wedding reception hall down a row of tables.

The Oly12mm, even if it looks like a toy lens is a wonderful lens, very sharp and very fast autofocussing, I never would use continuous autofocus on the gh3 or 4, it's too unreliable, I only use the autofocus to set my focus once and then start flying and leave it on manual. The focussing on the 12mm is also very accurate, even in lowlight, it has a permanent place on my gh3 and blackbird steadicam.

I never have focusing issues, I pre-focus before the shot and try to maintain my distance towards my subject to keep it in focus. The dof is much more manageable then on a full frame lens, even at f2.0

Hi Noa

how would you use focus if you were filming flying birds with the gh3, which setting would work best?

No idea as I never shoot flying birds on the blackbird :)
