after a long debate with the "search" tool, it consistently refuses to return the results I want :-(
So, the question: X70 is not designed to record still pictures (photo), am I right?
alternatively, what is the max resolution "pixel count" one can get by grabbing still frames from a video clip?
In other words, what is the size of the largest photo I can get from That 14Mpx sensor?
thanks in advance

No photo mode is mentioned in the documentation. So I think it has none, only video.

Sadly there is no photo mode. The camera is currently HD, so a still would be 1920x1080 (approx 2 MP).

Awesome photos with my FDR-AX100. Same chip. 4K.

mmmm... thanks, I suspected that.

Don't forget, if and when the 4K firmware update comes, you'll be able to take reasonable resolution frame grabs from 4K video - not the megapixel size of some stills that we see from many small camcorders, but worth mentioning.

Don't see any photo functions on the Sony page for the X70, seems strange they'd leave that off, but I guess "pros" wouldn't be caught dead shooting stills <wink>?

I've used the dedicated "photo" button on my AX100 more than once, it's really not a half bad "stills" camera in a pinch! Since it shares the bloodlines of the RX10, I'm sure that's part of it!
