Hi, Mark.

I'm seeing an occasional vertical smearing at the bottom edge of the frame, usually during a tilt-up from areas of high-density detail, like the grass at 24:09 (see the thumbnail).

I thought it might be my non-4K system choking, but when I downloaded the full-res file from Vimeo, the weirdness shows up when advanced frame-by-frame, in both Edius and Premiere. Any ideas?

Thanks for looking. It appears this artifact is the result of PowerDirector 13, which I have used to edit the clips.

Here is the link to the original clip that has the artifact in the full PD 13-rendered video, converted using the Samsung Movie converter.

https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=f951dd14a00df741!20160&authkey=!ANfAaEygWlPMdyM&ithint=video%2cmp4

You will see that this artifact is not in the original clip.

The clips for the Vimeo video were rendered in PD13 using XAVC S, at 100 Mbps.

Thanks for isolating the issue. (And the 1080p 120 is impressive.)

I'm curious about this cam and I found this footage, and I must say the NX1 is sharper, but as far as color, at least on my screen, it's a match.

Quick question:

Does the 120fps recording mode have the ability to record audio? Or is it an overcrank mode without audio.

Thanks.

How effective is the AF with the new firmware? Although my intent was not to 'test' it at an event like this, but rather capture some interesting footage, it nonetheless does show how well Samsung improved the AF.

All shots are straight from the camera, edited in PD13 and shot with the 18-200mm lens.

Select 4K if you have the ability to view on a 4K or UHD monitor.

Looks very nice on a 4K monitor! Samsung seems to have done a pretty good job at producing good sharp 4K images, anyone try their NX500 (the baby bro to the NX1)? Been contemplating that one as a "pocket" camera, seeing as Samsung seems to be at least as much on top of 4K, if not more than the "big boys".

I'm happy with the Sony AX100, but getting a tad tired of waiting for a 4K update to the RX10 or any of their other still (Alpha) cams for that matter

Thanks Dave. Things improved quite a bit subsequent to the last firmware update.

The AF performance was significantly improved.

The NX500 does fine in 4K UHD, and the crop actually is useful:

All the footage I've seen from the last couple videos posted on this thread are incredibly sharp and crisp and detailed. Amazing resolution, but the overall feeling is so video and digital.
Can anybody who has posted some of the footage try to pretend they're filming a 30" narrative and try to be as cinematic as they can? It's just that for me, and I'm mainly interested in shorts, this cam seems so harsh and blunt.

Thanks Larry...I think. :)

Mark and I have very similar styles of shooting and, speaking for myself (and I think for Mark), it's that 'you are there' look that we so love.

I always try to replicate the look & feel of what I'm shooting and for me that pushes me toward the look that you probably don't like, video.

Fair enough. I'd say, hooked to a light gimbal stabilizer this is the cam for a doc, no doubt.

Mark, the videos using the NX500 are really nice. What is in your lens collection for this camera?

Thanks. The 16-50mm PZ, the 60mm Macro, the 50-200mm zoom, and the 16-50mm S (for low light).

With the recent firmware update, so that 4K has 70 Mbps H265 bitrates and there is improved AF in video mode, the NX500 is more like a little NX1:

I had no trouble seeing the lcd image on this bright beach.

Another nice footage. Thanks for the lens.
One day, when and if you have time, I'd like to see how cinematic the NX1 could be. Do you have CineConvert by any chance? Have you tried to play with the footage in post to make it more film like?

I'm truly impressed with the Samsung NX1. Although now it is 2017 and the same limitations that existed a couple years ago no longer exist. Like codec issues with the H.265. Now today it is very easy to edit and grade the footage. Here is a little quick video I did to give some idea of how easy the footage is to customize to your liking. I have also included a free lut and the link is also in the YouTube Video description.

Free Samsung LUT: Samsung Basic Lut - Lifted Blacks (http://bit.ly/SamBasicLut)

I have also been able to use with the Zhiyun Crane with no problems. I use the Samsung 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 lens because of the light weight and the autofocus works awesome.
