I'm evaluating a set of American DJ Mega TriPar fixtures for use as uplights and color washes. They are advertised by the manufacturer as being "flicker free", but unfortunately testing reveals that this isn't true as far as video is concerned:
ADJ Mega TriPar Light - Camera Flicker Test on Vimeo
(DOWNLOAD THE ORIGINAL or watch in HD 1080P to best see the effect being tested -- the extra compression via Vimeo masks much of the flicker as macroblocking.)
ADJ has a newer product, the Dotz Par fixture, which is both more powerful and has an adjustable beam angle. It is advertised as "Flicker Free (No Camera Flicker)". Has anyone verified that? I hope to get a hold of some soon but they're in high demand right now.
