Juris Lielpeteris April 17th, 2014, 02:33 AM I'm excited about the new EBU R128 Loudness meter.
Danny O'Neill April 17th, 2014, 03:26 AM This might be one version to skip. Not much that tickles me there.
John Estcourt April 17th, 2014, 04:51 AM upgraded just now.
Just starting a new project so I should know quite soon how its going to be.
Robin Davies-Rollinson April 17th, 2014, 10:25 AM Did you upgrade from v12? I want to, but can't seem to find the right page to do so.
Robin Davies-Rollinson April 17th, 2014, 10:47 AM Sorry, found the page and done it. All fine so far, except I can't seem to link to Hitfilm Ultimate 2 - which I had already bought - by right-clicking on clip...
John Estcourt April 17th, 2014, 11:34 AM Hi Robin, I upgraded using the special offer email Sony sent. all good so far....
David Johns April 17th, 2014, 12:12 PM Dammit, why do Sony *never* send me the special offer emails? I've bought almost every version since 2000, I subscribed to their mailing lists - I was even a beta tester for version 12 but still they don't write, they don't call ... sniff.
Anyone got a handy discount code for an upgrade?
Regards
Dave
Jeff Harper April 17th, 2014, 12:33 PM For the first time I have not received an email offer either.
Robin Davies-Rollinson April 17th, 2014, 01:05 PM Solved the Hitfilm issue: uninstall it and re-install and Vegas finds it!
Mike Kujbida April 17th, 2014, 01:16 PM David & Jeff, I'm a long time user (version 1.0!!) and haven't received my email offer either.
All good things come to he/she who waits :)
Jeff Harper April 17th, 2014, 01:42 PM What's weird about it is I usually see something immediately upon release. At any rate I'm in no hurry to upgrade so I'm happy to wait.
Marco Ba April 17th, 2014, 04:18 PM For those who did not yet receive the SCS Newsletter:
If you don't mind visit VegasVideo.de (http://www.vegasvideo.de/vegas-pro-13-special-offers) (which is my own web site) and click the Vegas-Pro-13-banner down below. Then from the SCS product page click any desired product. That should offer the lowest prices including the upgrades.
When I tried the banner link I had to visit the linked page twice to have the special accounts appear (first time the regular prices appeared).
If anyone take this info as spam let it delete or let me know and I'll delete.
Mike Kujbida April 17th, 2014, 04:27 PM Got my email about an hour ago and here are the upgrade prices.

Robin Davies-Rollinson April 17th, 2014, 11:37 PM I really really like it. No stability issues, not that I had any with v12. Finding the Vegas Pro Connect iPad application a great facility for viewing and annotating a project away from base, and then syncing remarks with timeline on return. Not so sure about actually using iPad as a remote though. What use would that be?
Christopher Young April 18th, 2014, 04:03 AM Comments so far.
P-l-e-a-s-e let us have an option to put the timeline controls back up on the top menu bar.
If you use a monitor for nothing but timelines these tools are now way down the bottom of the monitor. I know there are keyboard short cuts for them but if you want to use the mouse it's about ten times more mouse travel involved with timelines at the top.
Also please give us a quick key to cycle the 'new' Shuffle, Slip, Slide etc tools. Like the 'D' key cycles through Envelope Edit, Selection Edit etc. Basically we have had all of these functions in one form or another so maybe not so new
Loudness meters 5***** plus on that one. Very useful for broadcast, will definitely make use of them.
So far all Nvidia GPU playback assistance and render functions working well. Various codec render times on test timeline almost identical between v12 and v13. 4% to 5% quicker on Sony AVC/MVC Internet 1920 x 1080-25p than v12.
Not a massive amount of changes to v12 but then v12 was a pretty mature package for most editors.
Worth the cost of the upgrade? I think so. As someone already posted, yes even if it was just for the Loudness meters alone.

Nicholas de Kock April 18th, 2014, 04:27 AM I always go for the upgrade special this might be the first one I skip purely on the grounds that the new icon looks like it was designed by a 3 year old :P Jokes aside I was hoping for a major update form Sony as they took their sweet time with this release but as always they have lived up to their reputation with another disappointing release.
Why is Project archiving a new feature? It's been around forever when you go "Save As" you could chose to export all associated media, they literally just moved all the stuff around. There is nothing in Vegas 13 that I find enticing enough to spend money on. Vegas 12 is finally stable, sorry Sony I'm disappointed yet again.
P-l-e-a-s-e let us have an option to put the timeline controls back up on the top menu bar.
I couldn't agree more, I have a three monitor set-up, give us the option to customise our own toolbars. Chris I got a multi button mouse with custom assigned keys to slice, cut/delete, copy, paste, tool selection, undo, play, stop, enable/disable ripple, ungroup all done by mouse via shortcuts.
Worth the cost of the upgrade? I think so. As someone already posted, “yes” even if it was just for the Loudness meters alone.
I've actually stopped using Vegas to Master my audio a long time ago, it's good but there are better options available.
Like a bad relationship I keep hoping for the best from Sony with little progress.
David Johns April 18th, 2014, 06:29 AM visit VegasVideo.de (http://www.vegasvideo.de/vegas-pro-13-special-offers) (which is my own web site) and click the Vegas-Pro-13-banner down below. Then from the SCS product page click any desired product. That should offer the lowest prices including the upgrades.
Well that worked for me for Vegas itself but the $99 upgrade to Titler Pro 3 doesn't show up - it wants £180!!
Any suggestions?
Dave
Marco Ba April 18th, 2014, 06:51 AM Is the Titler Pro upgrade directy sold by Sony Creative Software or by NewBlueFX?
Edward Troxel April 18th, 2014, 08:17 AM The Titler Pro 3 upgrade is being sold by Sony. Please check with Sony Customer Service if you have any issues getting the upgrade.

Phil Lee April 18th, 2014, 10:12 AM Hi
I've upgraded from Vegas 10, seems to be working well so far.
Question, I've downloaded NewBlue PrimeTime Lower 3rds and installed it, but can not find how I use this, it isn't showing up in Vegas under the Titling section, any ideas?
Regards
Phil
Norris Combs April 18th, 2014, 11:22 AM I'm using Pro 12, am not a professional editor. Only edit home videos, kids' activities, family vacations,... Is there any reason for me to upgrade?
Thanks,
Adam Stanislav April 18th, 2014, 11:31 AM I'm using Pro 12, am not a professional editor. Only edit home videos, kids' activities, family vacations,... Is there any reason for me to upgrade?
Thanks,
Download and install the evaluation version and see if it does something new you find worthy of paying for. I did just that this morning, and V13 crashed on me while it was still loading. So, naturally, I will not upgrade.
I have always upgraded in the past, but not this time.
Edward Troxel April 18th, 2014, 12:07 PM Question, I've downloaded NewBlue PrimeTime Lower 3rds and installed it, but can not find how I use this, it isn't showing up in Vegas under the Titling section, any ideas?
The Lower 3rds packages require Titler Pro 2 or Titler Pro 3. Once installed, open Titler Pro and go to the "Library" tab and it will be found in the Project Templates sections.
Titler Pro 3 is available as an upgrade when purchasing Vegas Pro 13.
Phil Lee April 18th, 2014, 12:32 PM Hi
Many thanks for the info. Does this mean I need to purchase Title Pro 2?
Best Regards
Phil
Edward Troxel April 18th, 2014, 01:56 PM Phil, I would purchase the Titler Pro 3 upgrade offer.

You may need to contact Sony Customer Service to get the correct pricing.
Edward Troxel April 18th, 2014, 02:17 PM Take a look at the various videos here:
Partner Products: NewBlue Titler Pro 3 (http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/newbluetitlerpro)
There are many good reasons to upgrade to Titler Pro 3 and it is a great bargain with Titler Pro 3 plus the styles package for only $99.95.
Nicholas de Kock April 19th, 2014, 05:26 AM ....V13 crashed on me while it was still loading. So, naturally, I will not upgrade. I have always upgraded in the past, but not this time.
Crashed on me 5 minutes into editing a project, so not upgrading either.
Leslie Wand April 19th, 2014, 05:52 AM i posted this over at scs, but my summation so far:
i've spent the day working on a large, though not too complicated project...
it feels like i'm going backwards, honestly.
i have no idea who or how this release was assessed or beta tested, but i get the distinct feeling:
a. scs is a group of programmers who happen to be involved with an nle software project (as opposed to a paint program, animation program, etc.,). they certainly AREN'T editors.
b. scs believes in moving forward, a good thing if they'd take a moment or two to look back occasionally and repair what is obviously broken, and some of these bugs date back YEARS
c. scs DON'T listen to their core users. in fact they probably have to listen to marketing, but that shouldn't stop them repairing what's broken.
d. throwing gimmicks at pros is pointless, we don't need them, what we need is, as has been said countless times over a number of years; is a reliable, stable, robust nle.
e. whatever beta testing program is now in place is a failure if it doesn't catch NEW problems, such as breaking scripts, gopro, etc., let alone resolve old ones.
f. scs should sort out gpu once and for all. it's nothing more than a bad joke as it stands at present. no, it's not a bad joke, it's embarrassing especially when compared to the competition.
g. colour levels... need i say more?
it's such a great pity that what was once software head and shoulders above the competition, and punching even beyond that has been brought down to such a derisory level.
it's very unlikely i'll ever spend any money on vegas again, and i'll certainly not be recommending it either. edius, even given it's clunky interface, limited toolset, etc., at least has the backing of grass valley, a company that knows it's market and caters directly to it - no gimmicks, just solid, reliable, BORING software.
it's going to take a LOT to get me back on board the fanboi train....
Danny O'Neill April 27th, 2014, 01:42 PM I have to agree with Leslie that they need to sort out the bugs.
Years later and several PC's the bugs and instability remains. No one can tell me its my PC as Ive changed it loads and its a dedicated editing machine. Nothing but the essentials on there yet it still isn't stable. I have mouse button 3 assigned to quick save.
I keep hoping that the new version will fix certain things but it never comes.
As I said in a previous post, you can't even report bugs to sony. Just the help desk which is outsourced to a bunch of script reading monkeys and if your problem isn't on a script then it goes no further.
Anyone tried telling it how to properly handle C100 PF files? Your supposed to be able to save the media settings for future imports but it doesn't work. We've had to write a script to do it each time.
Mark Holmes April 29th, 2014, 11:06 AM I gotta say - Vegas Pro 13 is worth a try. And I have been limping along with a constantly crashing v.10 for years, paid for 11 and never used it, and skipped 12 entirely. Just paid for 13 and GPU acceleration seems to really work on renders, and it overall seems much more stable.
Also, over at the SCS forums I'm seeing regular and frequent input from two members of the SCS team who are very concerned when bugs DO show up and are doing everything they can to address them.
I have high hopes from for Sony, SCS and Vegas Pro given these developments.
The $150 to update, for once, seems money well-spent.
Bill Currie April 29th, 2014, 02:26 PM Agreed. I also skipped over the Vegas 11 & 12 upgrades, due to a lot of advice from this forum. I'm having no issues so far with 13, other than the fact that it maxes out my meager 6 GBs of memory from time to time, and I have to wait a bit. But that's an issue with my 3 year old desktop...not the software. So far, it's been stable.
Robert Garvey April 30th, 2014, 06:36 AM I am having trouble getting excited about Sony's latest offering. And must add I find Sony's new approach a little alarming.
Rather then offering core support, new features and upgrades within the actual software, Sony appear to be relying on third party apps to do the heavy lifting and make sales.
So the upgrade offers:
Some plugins from 'FXHOME'
'CALM' loudness meters
'New Blue' Essentials VI
'iZotope' Nectar Elements
'HitFlim' 2 Ultimate
and Sony's own 'Production Assistant 2'
Support for apple tablets for a PC based software .. no android??
Also for a few more dollars you can add in: 'Tiler Pro 3' and get a copy of 'PrimeTime Lower 3rds' FREE
(What about the steak knives??)
What worries me is that most of these are separate licenses and at any future upgrade time I will have to step through them all keep things working and integrated, not to mention pay the individual upgrade fees.
I like most of what these add-on's do, however Sony should be trying to work all this action into Vegas directly so that it all runs cleanly under the one license but more importantly all integrated into the one NLE.
With the 'Cloud' alternative offering fully integrated solutions, this latest Sony offering to me looks like a mess.... A truly scatter gun approach.
Please straighten me out if I have missed some obvious benefit to the upgrade approach Sony is now employing. I have been a Sony true believer for the last 8 years and feel bad now that I may have backed a loser going forward. I have been very productive (and happy) with Vegas to date and hoped Sony would stay with the program.
Hopefully I am wrong about all this and I can happily stay and grow with Vegas:)
Steven Davis May 1st, 2014, 11:59 AM I'm still running 10 because it's stable. Since I've upgraded to mxf 50mpbs from my Canon XF300s, I'm wondering what I would gain in terms of rendering? I already know from another thread that I'm missing 'match output' on the render.
Jeff Harper May 1st, 2014, 02:01 PM Re: V13 stability, I haven't edited much with it because the trial has a watermark!
Because of watermark I will likely skip, I always try before I pay for upgrade. I have not skipped an upgrade since Version 7 which is when I started.
I can say that as per usual, Vegas froze up on me immediately with four lines of 1080i footage, until I turned off the GPU acceleration. Then all seemed to be fine. Must be my card, I don't know, nor do I care much about it. I haven't had high expectations for the GPU acceleration since it debuted.
I am disappointed about the watermark installed on trial version. I just can't spend a few hours to edit something for practice to see how it works for me.
Timeline performance seems sluggish compared to V12, and V12 opens same project noticeably faster. It could be that these things would be fixed with a reformatted HD and clean install, I don't know.
Looks like a bust for me. There are few features that are exciting and was looking forward to them. Overall, my suspicion is the program is about similar in stability to 12, but I have no real proof of this.
David Jasany May 1st, 2014, 02:47 PM I'm also questioning whether I should upgrade to Vegas Pro 13. I think I only missed one update since Vegas 4. As Robert said, it does seem as though Sony is relying on third party products to make their product interesting and exciting enough for people to buy it. The few new features aren't important to me, although I'll probably use a few a few if I do upgrade.
I like running the latest version Vegas Pro for minor interface improvements and support. Also like that Sony usually comes out later with a free update that includes more new features, not just big fixes.
I'm still a fan, but I'm on the fence about upgrading. With Sony's lack of significant update to DVD Architect in years and the dwindling number of improvements (and still GPU acceleration doesn't work reliably) in Vegas Pro, I'm wondering if this product is on its last legs.
Jeff Harper May 1st, 2014, 03:07 PM I am still wondering, as I have for several years now: why does Edius have it's amazing preview ability while editing without using GPU acceleration? What is it about it that this area is such a challenge for Sony to pull off?
If anyone happens to know the actual reason this is so I'd really love to know. Still baffles me.
Steven Davis May 1st, 2014, 03:09 PM With Sony's lack of significant update to DVD Architect in years and the dwindling number of improvements (and still GPU acceleration doesn't work reliably) in Vegas Pro, I'm wondering if this product is on its last legs.
FYI (if sony reads this thread) I agree. I've been with Vegas before Sony bought it from Sonic Foundry. It has always felt to me that Sony is out of touch with it's users, rolling out buggy versions with little or no change. And their tech support is the worst I've ever delt with.
Yeah, Sony might be done with it, kinda like Apple and their 'done with' attitude on DVD authoring.
Phil Lee May 3rd, 2014, 09:27 AM Hi
Vegas Pro 13 has been pretty stable for me to date, only showing a crash dialogue so far when I've closed it! Although it seems to be the case you can go many hours with Sony Vegas and it works fine, then the next time, crash after crash, so I haven't stopped saving after every edit!
I've upgraded from Pro 10.
Regards
Phil
Juris Lielpeteris May 3rd, 2014, 11:42 AM Vegas Pro 13 has been pretty stable for me to date, only showing a crash dialogue so far when I've closed it!
It is fixed in update build 310.
Phil Lee May 4th, 2014, 02:41 AM Hi
It is fixed in update build 310.
I've got 310 and haven't seen it since, I wonder if the fix was:
IF Application <> Exit AND Error THEN
Show error message
ELSE
Don't bother to show error message as closing application anyway ;)
Regards
Phil
Frans Meijer May 5th, 2014, 12:27 AM I've got 310 and haven't seen it since, I wonder if the fix was:
IF Application <> Exit AND Error THEN
Show error message

Don't bother to show error message as closing application anyway ;)
It really doesn't work that way
Phil Lee May 5th, 2014, 04:02 AM Hi
It was a joke, although writing software for my main living, it wouldn't be a surprise.
Regards
Phil
Frans Meijer May 5th, 2014, 06:31 AM Well, it's just, you know how hard it can be to catch all errors, specially during shutdown ;)
