Just a quick question. Would it be worth it for me to spend the extra 3k buying a GY HM 850, when I can buy a GY-HM 710 for $4995, and just use a Ninja Recorder to get the 4:2:2 resolution? I don't really need the wifi capabilities, and the f11 sensitivity doesn't really sway me one way or the other either.
Just looking for pros or cons either way.
Thanks!

Tough choice. I'll be uploading footage from NAB that I shot on the GY-HM850 in the booth. It will be the original card files you can download and ingest. Don't forget about the 20X lens with auto focus. Don't forget about the new robust menu system from the hm600. Don't forget about the 1080 chips.

Looking forward to seeing that. I guess I want the highest quality possible, but would there be much of a difference if I am mainly shooting in controlled situations?
What are the new menu settings? Can the auto focus be turned off? I might have to shoot alot of sports.
Thanks!

Auto focus can be turned off. Here is a video we did about the GY-HM600 winter 2012 when the camera camera came out:
GY-HM600 Menus - YouTube
I don't know if the menu is different between the HM600 and HM850.

Are these cameras recording to card at 4:2:2 colour space?
I cant seem to find any info on this.

Is there a macro on the Fuji 20x lens?

- I switched all my camera's HD251's (also CCD technology like the 7xx) to the HM850's, HM890 simply because of the sensitivity & noise difference. The streaming and Web remote functions were a bonus.
- The new 20x lens has no Macro function.

Thanks Marc,
I guess I am leaning that direction as well. Might need to figure out what lens to put on the front though. Need a longer lens, but not sure which one to go with.
Thanks,
Mike

I was new to the 850 and it seemed to be in "live" mode at NAB so I could not determine what it was shooting. I put all the files from the media card online so everyone could download and experiment. It shoots in this format, but I don't know if it is 4:2:2 - H.264 Extreme High Quality (XHQ).
