Hi, we make short wedding movies, in which there are small interviews of the bride groom or their parents or friends.

Right now, I use this,

Amazon.com: Audio-Technica ATR-3350 Lavalier Omnidirectional Condenser Microphone: Musical Instruments (http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATR-3350-Omnidirectional-Condenser-Microphone/dp/B002HJ9PTO/)

I put this on their shirt and put the other end directly into 5D Mark3 audio jack.

It does pretty good job, but still I feel the noise.

Do, I need to use a dedicated recorder like Zoom H1N and put the mic cord into it and connect the H1n to Mark 3 ?

Does that improve anything ?

The Mic is only one part of the chain, the pre-amp in what ever you are using to record things makes a huge difference to noise and hiss. What are you currently using? Direct in to the mk3?

I simply put the cord of the mic into the audio jack of the 5Dmk3 and it does the job!

So, what do you suggest ?
What should I get ?

Something like a sound devices mm-1 or mixpre preamps would do the job.

And is there any good wireless system audio recorder ?

Hi Soumendra, I also have an ATR 3050, better than the camera mic but otherwise pretty bottom end. I wonder if some of the hiss is due to the unshielded 20ft cable. I think you would be better off in the first instance if you upgraded to (say) an AT899.

If we use the AT889, do we not need any more external audio recorder ?

Maybe try the AT into an external recorder?

I use the 3350 w/ a Tascam DR05 and it works great.

Amazon.com: TASCAM DR-05 Portable Digital Recorder: Musical Instruments (http://www.amazon.com/TASCAM-DR-05-Portable-Digital-Recorder/dp/B004OU2IQG)
Okay 79$ is good enough.

So how is the workflow ?

You connect the mic to recorder and it records the audio separately ?

And video is done separately on the 5D.

So, video and audio has to be synced in the post production then.

Correct ?

And how do we remove the hissing and wind sound ? Does the recorder does the job of clearing ?

I've not noticed any hiss on setup with that mic.

Now, if you're shooting outdoors and getting wind noise that's a different animal.
I'm not sure of any budget mics that are going to deal well with that. Usually I think you need non condenser type mics or really good windscreens which I don't think exist for lav mics.

In terms of post you are correct. Your camera audio provides a scratch track to sync to.

I bought my dr05 from B and H and it came with plural eyes 3 at the time.

The new premiere CC syncs too I believe but I've never used it.
