I've been recording niche spring & summer sporting events for 1 weekend a month for the past couple of years strictly for sales, i.e. the event producers don't charge me to bring in my equipment, nor am I required to share any income; whatever I get from sales is mine to keep. The new season is fast approaching and because sales were disappointing last year, I'm on the fence about continuing.
I've uploaded more than 1K clips to YT, and way more than that on my own site, but because it's a niche market, few outside the niche visit either site.
Because it's a niche interest, I have only about 12K views on YT, though double-digit thousands on my own site over about 4-5 years.
I'm considering starting to offer the clips on a subscription basis and am interested in learning about what experience/success/failure others have had with this.
I've checked out the popular sites, and I don't have enough subscribers/views for YT, and Viddler is so expensive I doubt I'd get enough subscribers to cover the cost. Vimeo Pro or going it on my own are the only other options I'm aware of and may be my only choices.
Anyone here with experience at either Vimeo Pro, or going it alone?
Or could members here fashion a new outlet with maybe a more equitable model?
It doesn't hurt to ask, so I welcome all feedback, even if I'm way off base.
