Hey everyone,

I'm planning on getting the A1 camcorder in the next few months. And was also planning on getting a matte box with french flags as well for the camcorder, but there aren't any on the market at a decent price.

However, I believe I may have come up with a DIY concept for one that is built off the included lens hood I've seen in pictures. But I need the exact dimensions of the lens hood that comes with the A1 so I can start some drawings. I need length, width, height, etc.

I know that inches aren't always exact, so, centimeters/millimeters measurements will probably work better, but either or will work.

THANKS!

Hi Scott,
I just received my matte box outfit recently after not being able to get a reasonably priced one. (I live in australia) I ended up getting a great set-up from England at about a third of the cost of anywhere else. It fits the AE1 & HC1 just great and it's super light in weight. All you need ist one step-up ring and your'e away. All up about $500 Austr. including express freight. Look up FORMATTE Matte Box on the net.

Thanks for the reply!
I found it on these two pages so far:
http://www.adorama.com/FOFM500.html
http://www.2filter.com/prices/products/format44.html

Did you have to get a 37mm to 43mm adapter then attach the Formatte 43mm Screw-In Adapter Ring, then the mattebox?
I'm just using the 43mm diameter as an example of the scenario. Since they don't have a Formatte 37mm size adapter.

I'd still like some quick measurements of the original supplied lens hood, if you'd be so kind. :)

thanks!

Hi again scott,
unfortunately I can't give you the measurements at present as I left the lens hood at home and I won't be back for three days. You can't screw anything onto the lens hood as there is no female thread. If you do try a DIY then may I suggest you sandwich your home made matte box back between a 37 to 43-49 step-up and another 43 or 49 spacer ring. btw, I used a 37-49 and a 49-52 for the formatt. Also bear in mind that the first 100x100 glass filter I bought already cost more than the matte box. Yeah man it's not a cheap hobby.
cheers Hubert
