I just purchased a VX2000 (over ebay) and I received it today. Everything works as described in the auction except I noticed a particle of dirt trapped in between the lens. The spec is not visable when using the camera but it is clearly visible if you look at the lens from the front of the camera.

My question is... is this really bad? It is going to cause trouble, or an indication of problems already? Should I be returning this camera to the seller and asking for my money back?

If it doesn't show up on recorded footage, why worry about it?

The front glass is sort of a dust cover. If it doesn't image, don't worry about it.

All lenses give a circular image at the film plane, and a rectangular gate takes the centre out of this to give you 4:3 or 16:9 or whatever image. This looks like a small air bubble from your picture, and if the camera's been sent by air freight it may well have been at high altitude - known for causing these air bubbles in the fluid that makes up the OIS prism.

No need to worry about it if this is what it is, and as it doesn't shadow the imaging chips it sounds fine to me.
