Is this ok to do?...I know switching tape brands is generally very bad but is there a major lubricant diffrence between the mq and pq tapes that will be bad for the heads?
-thank you
Jake.

Last I heard (and I don't think it was from Jan C. herself) is that both grades use the same lubricant. Switching from say Panasonic to Sony would be a different matter.

yup, the tapes are identical apart from one factor.. tape density...
the actual tape on a PQ is about 4 times thicker than an MQ, being heavier and a lil more strenuous on the drum (moreso the spooler of the transport)
either way, i had no choice but to jump to PQs when my supplier ran out of tapes, but i still rana head cleaner before switching. I then ran about 5 minutes of colour bar just to refresh the head with the new emulsion. (different batch being from MQ to PQ obviously)
I didnt get any dropouts by doing this.

You're saying the more expensive (white) MQ tapes have a thinner base than the PQ's? Seems counterintuitive for robustness.

no idea, but i do know that the MQs have outlasted the PQs ive used..
