Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice on using my Rode VideoMic pro wirelessly.

I work as a press photographer and although most of my work is still stills based I'm often asked to shoot video for web use - it would mostly be press conferences, maybe a few interviews and the like.

I've done some brief research and have found the Sennheiser EK 100 G3 transmitter/receiver. I've got a budget of around £500.

Would these do the job? Is it a good option?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You 'could' plug the Videomic into the G2/3 system SK-100 bodypack transmitter but would need a custom-made input cable. ( I don't think the VideoMic OEM stereo/dual mono plug would work)
For boom work, I would suggest a better quality battery powered shotgun mic with a SKP-100 plug-on (butt plug) transmitter. A Phantom powered plug-on transmitter is available, but it's about the cost of a complete G3 W100-ENG Versatile system.

Addendum. Re-reading, I see press conference.. In that case, I'd suggest an dynamic omni-directional reporter's mic for the plug-on transmitter. Example: Electrovoice RE50 or 635; Senheiser MD-42 or 46, Shure VP64, ect.

Yes the Sennheiser G3 is widely accepted as the least-expensive decent wireless kit.
I would be wary of covering a big press conference with a G3 because chances are that you may have a problem with others using the same equipment in the same frequency band. OTOH, if you are covering someone up on the podium with 27 microphones, you could just use your receiver to tune into somebody else's transmitter (!)

Personally, I would NOT use a wireless system to cover a press conference. A $30 cable is infinitely higher quality and more reliable than a $3000 wireless kit. And frequently they have a "press box" which has a dozen or two mic ouptuts that you can simply plug into.
