Apple never discounts their pro software-- Final Cut Pro X, Compressor, Motion or Logic for example. The best "hack" I've read is to buy iTunes gift cards which also work on the Mac App store. I just saw $100 iTunes card online for $80 each. [Buy from a reputable place of course] If one buys three of those cards, you can get FCP X for $240.
Obviously, since FCPX 10.1 is going to drop soon, I'd wait a bit though.
