Hi I just hired out this microhone thinking that it was directional. When i plugged it into my camera it just sounds highly omnidirectional. i stood a very far distance behind it and whispered and it picked it up. Was i given the wrong microphone or is this right?

Hi
I looked closer at the microphone it is a me66. The pick-up pattern is just so bad!!! I mounted it onto my camera and it is picking up every little noise, its worse than the microphone that came with my pd-150. i hope im doing something wrong

Are you using this indoors? Outdoors? This is a fairly hot mic, but it also is a noisy mic, plus being indoors will only serve to amplify what's happening around it.
You likely need a good hyper cardiod for indoor work, if that indeed is what you're doing.

It sounds like you may not have changed the level and might be overdriving the limiter which is probably still set for the softer mic.

I've turned off the agc and I've played with the audio levels. This has helped a bit, and probably the best i will get it. I was hoping to use it indoors in a controlled environment (as much as things can be controlled) I jus had no idea how sensitive it was. picking up sounds of the zoom function etc. It will teach me to reseach my microphones better before hiring them
thanks for the replies
