for some time my xf 100 is giving me a problem. every time i switch off the camera and leave it. . . in the morning when i switch it on it shows the panel to re set the date and time. . I got the camera update to PAL in Idnia. the camera shoots now both PAL and NTSC. the default setting seems to be NTSC. everytime - resetting dates means I have to go through making changes in setting to get it back to PAL again..
what could be the problem . .

It looks like your internal battery needs to be recharged . Look in the manual for the instructions on how to do this.

followed the instruction manual to recharge the internal battery.
for two days the camera worked just fine.
third days onward - same problem - it doest not save previous setting.
canon representative wrote back that if the problem persists take the camera to canon service.
does any one know where they hide this rechargeable battery in the body. I would like to replace the older battery on my own if possible. in the field won't be possible to take the camera to the canon service centre here in India.

Hi Deepak
I live near the Irvine Ca. Canon Repair Center and sropped by today to discuss this problem. Canon does not recommend you try and change this battery, It is a special canon battery and the leads have to be re-soldered when replaced, they feel the camera could be damaged without proper repair. But they state they have had problems with some of these batteries and when people have them replaced here it is done for free. Canon says to contact the Indian repair center and discuss this with them. A work around is to leave the main battery in the camera but if the internal battery is to weak to hold a charge you may lose your settings again. when you have to change it. On page 101 in the manual you can learn how to set your custom settings to a SD Card this makes it easy to apply your settings if the battery fails again. I hope this helps.

thanks Mike for the effort
yesterday I got in touch with Canon people here in delhi. they told me that as they do not sell this camera in India they would see if they can find the right battery and replace it. Will take the camera on Monday to the service centre to see if they can advice anything.
have taken all the steps - left the battery in the camera several times. still internal battery did not hold any charge. I loose my settings all the time.
will update
