Hi guys

Just want to pool some experience on c300 fan noise. I was on a shoot yesterday and we had 2 C300s. Mine and another owned camera by the other op. The soundy was picking up the fan on my camera but didn't have an issue with the other.

Have others found that different cameras have different fan noise levels? I'm wondering whether mine should go in for a fan service ?

Cheers

Hi Mat,

I've never really noticed the fan noise on my C300. I have to put my ear up right next to the camera to hear it.

I've not worked with another C300 so don't know if mine is exceptionally quiet.

It doesnt have a setting for your fan adjusting it to Automatic? The C100s you can adjust the setting to Automatic.

As far as I'm aware there is no control of the fan system ??

Same here I have to put my ear next to the C300 to hear the fan. Do not pick it up with wired audio on camera mics. It is there but never even close to a problem. Might want to send it in to Canon?

My c300 has a fan? :-)

Seriously, I've never really noticed it... And it's hard to imagine picking it up on mics, unless the camera was close, and in the the line of sight of a sensitive shotgun.

I have two C300s, the older one (Jan 2012) definitely has a noisier fan than the second one I bought in June 2013. I think Canon modified or redesigned the fan following fan noise complains.

Not so sure about that. I have the number 0000025 camera (got it the first day)... And no fan noise for me.

Some interesting points guys. It sounds like there could be variation in these fans. Maybe ill put it in!

As I say the sound man had worked with the other camera and not had an issue but heard mine through his head phones. Not badly, but enough he picked it up!

Sound engineers pride themselves on hearing things that mere mortals can't and it might be that although he could hear and identify the noise, it's not really loud enough to adversely affect the recording.

If you are going to get the camera serviced Ive found It's always quite hard to get a quote from Canon for maintenance work, they always say to drop it off and they'll let you know but you might get a quote from H. Lehmann who I have found to be really helpful.

Its been in once before on the warranty and it was pretty good but thanks.

Yes I was surprised the soundy pulled it but the fact he's been working with the other op for weeks and never had a problem says theres definately a difference even if its not a fault as such!

I got number 0000016, may be they did the mod stating at 0000020? :)

Now I feel inadequate. Damn you. :-)

Maybe it's just my hearing.
