View Full Version : Lowel Pro Light scrims cast screendoor shadows

I bought Lowel Full and Graduated scrims for use with my pro lights (in the swing-in accessory holder that clips on to the barndoor frame). The scrims seem basically useless because the small light bulb of the pro light acts as a point source and casts a screendoor pattern on whatever is being lit.

Is there something I'm missing? Anyone use these Pro light scrims successfully? I suppose I could add lots of diffusion but that defeats the point of the scrim which is to be able to adjust light output without going to the trouble of dealing with gels.

Hey Tom,

You must have tried this but I will bring it up any way. There is only one adjustment on Pro Lights. Did you turn the dial on the side to the "wide" setting?

Do you have the "prism" glass in place? This usually comes with the unit and diffuses the light just enough to give a single "almost sharp" shadow. The scrims should work properly (simply cutting light output) this way.

Yep, I always use either the prism or frosted glass or external diffusion with the scrim, otherwise it's exactly as you say
